Vivo V23 and V23 Pro – A new year, a new beginning

Vivo is kickstarting 2022 with two new phone launches – the V23 and V23 Pro, the successor to Vivo’s V20-lineup that was popular last year for their high-end design and camera performance. However, Vivo says the V23 Series phones are built from the scratch to be more advanced from the past offerings. They even offer a colour changing technology that could set a new path for future smartphones.

Vivo says the V23 Series phones are the most stylish smartphones ever made. The V23 and V23 Pro are available in Sunshine Gold, and capable of changing colour. The device looks glittery gold indoors but turns into a turquoise blue in the sun within 30 seconds. Vivo says this magic happens due to fluorite AG glass that reacts to ultraviolet light. The colour changing works even when you are using a transparent case. If you have a taste for darker tones, these phones are also available in a Stardust Black colour.

These phones are thin and light too. The V23 Pro is just 7.3mm thick and weighs 171 grams. This makes it one of the most compact smartphones today. This model also has curved edges, so you can comfortably hold the phone. Both phones use a soft-touch matte texture at the rear that looks premium and keeps the surface smudge-free. They ship with a clear case for added protection.

The Vivo V23 phones also excel in the display department. The V23 comes with a 6.4-inch display, while the Pro variant has a slightly bigger 6.5-inch screen. Both models run a full HD+ resolution of 2376 x 1080. They use an AMOLED panel for delivering vivid colours along with rich contrast and deeper blacks. The display also supports HDR10+, which means you can enjoy watching compatible content from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime.

These screens also support a 90Hz refresh rate taking the gaming experience to a new level. You can also experience smoother scrolling through web pages and images. These screens support 1200nits of brightness, so they can get very bright. Vivo has also taken care of durability. Both devices come with Schott Xensation alpha glass for protection against accidental scratches and falls.

The Vivo V23 phones also significantly upgrade the selfie game. They come with a dual front camera configuration, a 50MP primary and an 8MP secondary wide-angle camera. Vivo says the primary camera automatically focuses on your eyes, ensuring you stay in focus. The secondary 8MP camera offers a 105-degree field-of-view and is perfect for clicking wide-angle selfies and videos. These cameras support the all-new Natural Portrait mode for natural-looking selfies. There is also a Sports Selfie Mode that allows clicking clear selfies even when you are moving.

The front-facing cameras can shoot 4K videos. There is also a Dual Video Mode for travel vloggers or users wanting to make educational videos. Despite having dual front cameras, the notch and screen bezels are extremely minimal. The front frame also neatly houses a Dual Tone Spotlight flash, so you can take photos even in a dark room.

The rear camera setup is also equally impressive. The primary camera on the Pro variant is a 108 MP unit, while the non-pro variant houses a 64 MP unit. Vivo says both cameras support features like Double Exposure, Super Night Video and Ultra Stabilisation Mode. These phones share the same 8 MP secondary wide-angle camera, offering a 120-degree field of view. This camera supports Vivo’s Ultra-Wide Night Mode for clicking clear low light landscapes. The phones also come with a 2 MP macro camera for close-up photography.

These phones are performance powerhouses. The V23 sports the Dimensity 920 CPU, MediaTek’s latest mid-range processor promising enough power to smoothly run everyday apps. For playing high-end games like Battlegrounds Mobile India, Call of Duty: Mobile, Minecraft, and Fortnite, the V23 Pro with the Dimensity 1200 CPU would be a more ideal choice. The base variant of the Vivo V23 Series phones come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The top variant has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. These phones also support Vivo’s Extended RAM 2.0 feature that uses a portion of the device’s internal storage as additional RAM.

The V23 Series phones run on Vivo’s Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 12. The new OS introduces smaller widgets for a cleaner-looking home screen. Vivo has also introduced a new Album Highlight feature, where you can personalise photos with various templates and create quick short videos. The new OS also introduces a new simplified grid view to streamline multitasking.

The Vivo V23 has a 4,200 mAh battery, while the Pro model houses a slightly bigger 4,300 mAh battery. Both phones ship with a 44 W fast charger that Vivo claims can charge the device from 0 to 63 per cent charge under 30 minutes. Both phones support dual-SIM 5G and you will also find Wi-Fi 6 for wireless connectivity. They also come with Bluetooth 5.2.

The V23 Series phones excitingly mark the beginning of 2022. Their colour changing technology is fascinating and something we have never seen before. The premium design is also backed up with a great set of cameras and powerful hardware, making these phones a complete package.
