VAIO isn’t a new laptop brand. The brand was one of the first to introduce its thin and light design profiles, and they also managed to successfully make laptops look colourful. VAIO was Sony’s partner a decade ago which then became independent in 2014. The brand is now starting its second innings in India by offering the all-new VAIO E15. The new laptop borrows a lot from the original VAIO design DNA, and packs in AMD’s powerful processor. It promises to tear through its competition.

The E15 has an elegant design combined into a light and portable chassis. It measures just 19.9mm in thickness and weighs 1.77kg, so you can easily carry it around in your hands, briefcase or backpack while travelling. Like older VAIO series laptops, the E15 also has a large VAIO logo on its display lid for a premium touch. VAIO says the E15 has a solid hinge design that lets you open the display using a single hand. Opening the display lid also lifts the laptop by a few inches to offer comfort to the wrist and hands. This also ensures adequate airflow to keep the laptop cool. The E15 is currently being offered in two shades – Graphite Black and Tin Silver.

If you require lots of connectivity ports, the VAIO E15 has you covered. The device has two USB 3.0 ports, letting you connect pen drives and hard drives. There is also a Type-C port for quick data transfers and connecting an external display. You can also use this port to charge the device. This eliminates the hassle of carrying multiple chargers for your devices. The laptop also has an HDMI port that comes in handy while presenting slides on a large screen or projector. You also get a microSD card slot so you can transfer photos from your phone or action camera to your laptop. The laptop has Wi-Fi 802.11ac for connecting to wireless networks and a LAN port for wired connection.

The VAIO E15’s 15.6-inch full HD screen is designed both for work and entertainment. It uses an IPS panel that promises vivid colours and wide viewing angles. Text on IPS screens also appear sharp, so you can spend hours working on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. The screen’s 16:9 aspect ratio also makes it perfect for watching movies and playing games. The screen’s anti-glare coating also cuts reflections, ensuring you can work in well-lit rooms or while travelling in broad daylight.

The VAIO E15 (V2IN007P) run on the AMD Ryzen 3500U processor. It is a 4-core processor with a total of 8 threads. It run a base clock speed of 2.1GHz that goes all the way up to 3.7GHz with Max Boost. The processor is fast, and it can easily handle productivity, software development as well as photo and video editing software. There is also an integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics solution that will let you play slightly older games such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Age of Empires 2, Dota 2 and Hitman 2: Silent Assassin. It also helps with general graphics intensive software.

The VAIO E15 ships with Microsoft Windows 10 Home OS. The brand also bundles Microsoft Office 2019 Home and Student, giving access to apps such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook at no extra cost. The laptop ships with 8GB of DDR4 RAM to take care of heavy multitasking. This means you can easily run multiple Chrome tabs side-by-side, while taking down notes in Microsoft Word or other apps. The laptop also ships with 512GB of SSD storage, so there’s enough storage for large media files.

Despite being slim and portable the VAIO E15 has a full-size keyboard. Having a dedicated number pad proves helpful while using number-crunching apps such as Microsoft Excel. The keyboard is also backlit, so you can type in the dark without issues. VAIO says the keys are well-spaced to make the overall keyboard usage experience snappy. The E15’s trackpad is also large and it has dedicated click keys for better response. The trackpad’s large size makes scrolling through webpages, photos and large data sheets easy. The Microsoft Precision Touch makes for a smooth multitasking experience and it’s a big step over traditional trackpads.

VAIO says the E15’s dual high-quality speakers are capable of delivering a stellar media experience. The 1MP camera is ample for video calls, and the laptop’s dual-microphones claim to remove any unnecessary sounds that might interfere with your video conferences. The laptop promises to offer up to 8 hours of battery life under heavy usage. The VAIO E15 marks its place in the growing laptop market with its powerful configuration and premium design.
