If you are a casual or professional gamer, you know winning at mobile games is not as easy as it sounds. Mobile phones are more accessible now and there are more online players than ever before. This makes the competition in online games and winning even tougher. Now, some may say you need to practice more to get better, but isn’t there a simpler way?

Well, now you can. We have compiled a list of our favourite tips and tricks that will improve your chances of winning. Whether you play complex games such as Playerunknown’s Battleground or simple games such as Doodle Jump, these tricks will help you play better. In fact, some of the tips can also keep your phone optimised and stutter-free. So, grab your seat, pick up your phone and let’s get started.

First rule of mobile gaming – enable the DND mode

Has it ever happened, that you are almost about to win a game, but it gets interrupted by an incoming call? This can be annoying and sometimes, cost you your game. That’s where the DND (Do not disturb) mode helps by muting unwanted incoming calls and messages, letting you play games without any pauses. The mode also has lets you create a priority list that only lets important calls and messages come through.

To turn it on your Android phone, swipe down from top of the screen using two fingers and tap the DND icon. Some Android phones may not have quick access to the DND mode. For such devices, manually turn it on by accessing the Settings and selecting DND feature. It should be under the Sound/Vibration tab. To turn on DND on iOS, swipe down from the right top corner and tap on the DND icon (Crescent Moon icon).

Reducing background usage can makes your game run smoother

Most smartphones can multitask well. You can have multiple apps running together, but this isn’t a good idea when you are gaming. Graphic intensive mobile games such as Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground and others need a lot of RAM and processor performance to render graphics. If your phone has less RAM, you should clear the background apps before running these games. In fact, even high-end phones may stutter while gaming at high quality settings, so it’s a good idea to clear background apps you start playing.

To clear the background apps on an Android phone, just press the multi-window icon at the bottom of the screen and tap the clear apps icon. This may vary from model-to-model. To close background apps on an iPhone or iPad, double-tap the home button or swipe up to the right (for iPhone X series models) and manually close the apps by swiping them upwards.

Customising controls can help you be a pro

Every gamer is different and has different gaming preferences. Some gamers prefer a cleaner layout while some prefer a less organised but easily accessible interface. However, game developers bundle standard layouts which may not suit everyone. That’s where customising the game controls helps.

Popular games such as Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battleground and Asphalt 9 Legends let you customise the game controls to your comfort. All these controls can be easily tweaked by accessing the in-game settings menu. You can try default layouts, tweak them as you need or even create new ones. Furthermore, you can also tweak the camera view, audio levels and other sensitivity settings which should improve overall gameplay.

Improve your game using a controller

If you haven’t tried playing mobile games using a controller, you are probably missing out on a lot. Physical buttons on a controller makes gaming easier while playing first person games such as Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battleground. You can aim precisely even when your character is moving, shift weapons quickly and have a better view of the screen, as it remains thumbs-free.

Buttons on a gaming controller are also pressure sensitive. This means, you can accurate control the acceleration and turn your car into turns better, while playing racing games such as Need for Speed No Limits and Asphalt 9 Legends. Even simple games such as Crossy Roads have built-in compatibility for gaming controllers. These controllers connect to your phone via Bluetooth, so the setup is pretty clutter-free. If you are an Android user, you can even connect a good PlayStation 4 or an Xbox controller to your phone. Sadly, iOS don’t support controller paring yet, but iPhone users can expect it in the upcoming iOS 13 update.

Sound is just as important as visuals

If you have pair of earphones, you’ll surprised how useful they can be while gaming. Your phone’s speaker often misses out details within the game such as footsteps, vehicle sounds. You don’t get a sense of direction. These smaller details can contribute a lot towards winning, especially while playing action games such as Fortnite and PlayersUnknown’s Battleground. With earphones, gamers can hear every detail, figure out the direction of the enemies, and coordinate better with their teammates using voice communication to win games.

Moreover, as earphones are versatile, you can carry them anywhere and focus on gaming better even when you are travelling or in bed. It’s not going to disturb people around you, so it’s a win-win for everyone.

Try playing on a larger screen

If your phone supports screen mirroring and you have a Smart TV, you can add a lot of fun to your mobile gaming experience. Screen mirroring is simple and you can enable it both, for Android and iOS devices. For Android users, go to the Settings and select the Wireless Display option which should be under the Display or Wireless Settings tab. Pair your phone with your Smart TV, and you are good to go.

For iPhones and iPads, open the Control Center by swiping down from the right corner of the screen. Tap on the screen mirroring icon to start pairing. Remember, you need an Apple TV or AirPlay-enabled television set for mirroring. If you don’t have a Smart TV, you can also try Amazon Fire TV or Google Chromecast which comes with the screen mirroring feature built-in.

These were some of the important tips and tricks that can surely up your chances of winning. Remember, keep playing, keep practicing and try customising controls until you master them. Also remember that gaming drains your phone’s battery, so it’s also good idea to have a power bank as a backup for uninterrupted gameplays.
