If still unsure, it’s advisable that you head to a local dry cleaning boutique and get your jeans washed. Yes, they may hand over an expensive bill, but taking a professional help is a wise option if you want to save your jeans from any DIY mishaps.

Sort the jeans for washing:
While you may think it’s ok to toss a couple of jeans along with the other laundry. In reality you’re damaging your clothes. So here’s an advice, make it a practice to separate jeans from the other laundry as this will prevent friction and damage of different fabrics. Remember for efficient cleaning, don’t overload the machine. A jeans weighs roughly around 400 -600 grams, so you can easily wash a pair of 3 to 4 jeans in one load. But, if you own jeans in a variety of dark and pastel hues was them separately. In fact, it’s recommended that you combine the dark jeans with other colored clothes. This will definitely avert the disastrous patches of blacks, blues and indigos on a white or light blue jeans.

Inside Out! :

New or old, ripped or frayed the thumb rule is to always turn the jeans inside out before tossing them into the washing machine. This helps minimize fading of the dye as well as prevents damage along the hems, pockets and waistband edges. It’s also important to zip zippers and fasten buttons before tossing your jeans in the machine as this helps keep the jeans in shape.

Don’t Use the dryer:
Your washing machine dryer can be the worse of your jeans as it will constrict the denim and make it harder for you to mold the shape back into the garment. So, once the washing process ends immediately remove your jeans from the washing machine and let it hang in the upside down position to drip dry on the laundry line and if it’s a jacket lay it flat on an old towel as hanging it on a hanger can cause weird indents near the shoulder area. By doing so, your jeans will retain its shape and won’t have any wrinkles on.

But if you have jeans with stretch material, you may want give it a quick spin to retain its original shape. If so set the dryer on the lowest heat temperature for a short cycle say maybe of 5 minutes. After the cycle is over, ensure it’s still damp and hang it for drying.

Hand Wash Your Jeans:
If you’re concerned of the ripped and frayed jeans getting damaged in the machine wash it by your hands! Yes, you can! In fact you must. It’s any day better to wash jeans by your hands especially if it’s delicate or brand new. As this is much gentler washing process compared to machine wash and prevents the fabric from fading and breaking down which extends the life of your eternal favourite attire. Yayyee! Well, if you’re wondering how to start off then here’s what you need to do.
Step 1: Fill a bucket with cold water, ensure you fill it enough water to dip the jeans completely.
Pro tip: check the wash care label to know the optimum water temperature
Step 2: Depending on how soiled your jeans is, pour in half a scoop of detergent or half cap liquid detergent into the water.
Step 3: Dunk your jeans into this solution and swish it around for a minute or two. Leave the jeans soaked in the water for atleast 15- 30 minutes (depending on how soiled your jeans are) to allow the powder or liquid detergent to remove the dirt and gunk from your jeans.
Step 4: Drain the mucky water and rinse the jeans thoroughly under cold water. After doing so, once again soak the jeans for 5 to 10 minutes. This is to remove any impurities or detergent residue if any. Remove the jeans from the bucket and put it for drying.
Pro tip: if you want to check whether the color of your new jeans comes out easily then try rubbing it with a white cloth. If the color comes out consider washing your jeans once or twice before this process is also as crocking and this technique can  help in prevent denim stain on furniture, accessories, light colored clothes etc.

Wash the jeans less frequently:

Fashion experts suggest rinsing the jeans only if it’s soiled and spot clean can’t help. If your evergreen attires are not dirty you can fold them and rewear them atleast 5 to 6 times before planning to give it a quick wash. In case of stretchable you may need to wash them after 2 or 3 wear (depending on the usage) to retain the shape, because they have the tendency to stretch out after use.

Majority of us would wear jeans at any given point of time in any season! There’s no doubt that a good pair of jeans makes you feel confident, comfortable and can last for a long time only when you take care by washing them the right way.
