The Samsung Galaxy Note series stands out for many good reasons. These phones have great unique designs, hardware and functionalities, which few others can offer. Samsung has officially announced the 2020 Galaxy Note lineup, and there are two new models this year. The Note 20 with a 6.7-inch screen and the Note 20 Ultra with its 6.9-inch screen is the largest Note ever made. These phones feature Samsung’s latest flagship processor that help assure they are nothing short of performance powerhouses.

The new Note 20 devices are designed to absolute perfection. They now have a matte glass finish, unlike last year’s glossy finish which attracted fingerprints. The phone has Gorilla Glass 7 both, at the front and back to protect the device from impacts and scratches. These devices sport stainless-steel frames which makes them significantly lighter and stronger than their predecessor. Both devices are IP68 certified so they are protected from water and dust. These phones are available in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black colours. There is also a Mystic Gray colour exclusive to the Note 20 and a Mystic White colour reserved for the Note 20 Ultra. The phone comes with an ultra-sonic, in-display fingerprint reader that lets you unlock the device, purchase apps and make payments. The device also features Samsung’s AI detection to help unlock the device.

The 2020 Galaxy Note lineup comes in two screen sizes. The Note 20 has a 6.7-inch full HD display running screen resolution of 2400 x 1080. The Note 20 Ultra has a slightly bigger 6.9-inch screen running a QHD resolution of 3088 x 1440. It also supports 120hz refresh rates at full HD resolution, that makes scrolling through apps, images, webpages a lot smoother. The Note 20 Ultra’s display is one of the brightest with its 1500 nits brightness spec. Both devices use Samsung’s Super AMOLED technology, that is known for rendering excellent images with deep blacks and high contrast.

Samsung has also managed to narrow down the bezels on the new Note 20 devices. The smaller punch-hole camera now neatly blends with the screen, and it provides an immersive content viewing and gaming experience. Samsung has also bumped up the touch sampling rate to 240Hz to ensure every touch gets an accurate and instant response. This feature is bound to be a delight for gamers. The display also supports HDR10+ that balances the contrast between lighter and darker shades. The phone also comes with an Always-on feature that lets you view dates, weather alerts, and incoming notifications at a glance.

The new Note 20 duo promise powerful performance with the latest Exynos 990 processor. This processor is based on a 7nm architecture, and Samsung claims it is designed to handle every app and game with ease. Both phones sport Mali-G77 GPUs that promise 25 per cent better graphic performance than its predecessor. This means, games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG: Mobile) in Ultra-HDR graphics settings will be buttery-smooth. The Note 20 has 8GB of RAM, and it comes with 128GB and 256GB storage options. The Note 20 Ultra has a massive 12GB of RAM, and is it offered in 256GB and 512 GB storage options. Both devices use UFS 3.1 storage, that ensure faster file transfer speeds than traditional storage. The device also has a microSD card slot that lets you expand the storage up to 1TB.

The S Pen has always been the differentiating feature for the Galaxy Note. The new S Pen now has a bigger battery that claims up to 10 hours of standby time. It now comes with a reduced 9ms of latency that makes using the S Pen as natural as putting pen to paper. The new S Pen comes with a bunch of new Air Gestures that let you take control of your Note 20. You can wave the S Pen in the air to control the camera zoom, switch to the selfie camera and even change the camera mode. The Note 20 devices run on Android 10 and use Samsung’s One UI 2.5. Samsung claims, the new One UI is specially developed for Note 20 devices and it creates the perfect synergy between the phones and S Pen. The device now more accurately identifies S pen strokes, and it now comes with improved handwriting-to-text recognition.

Samsung has equipped the new Note 20 devices with a powerful triple-camera setup. The Note 20’s primary 20MP camera comes with f/1.8 aperture that lets you click great low-light pictures. It also has a 64MP telephoto camera that offers up to 3X optical zoom. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra seems to have a more powerful camera array than the Note 20. It comes with a 108MP wide-angle camera with f/1.7 aperture. It also has a 12MP periscopic telephoto camera that offers up to 5X optical and 50X hybrid zoom. Both phones have similar 12MP ultrawide angle cameras, that covers a large area and very helpful in clicking landscapes and architecture.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are some of the first smartphones to record 8K videos. Samsung has also included OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) that ensures steady photos and videos. The Note 20 Ultra also features a laser Auto-focus system, so the cameras focus on subjects instantaneously. Both phones come with 10MP wide selfie cameras which is very helpful while clicking group selfies. The Note 20 devices also feature a dual-mic setup that can even lock on to a subject to amplify the sound as you zoom the camera in.

The new Note 20 devices support 5G, which means you can take advantage of next-generation network speeds when it arrives. Both devices sport Wi-Fi 6 to ensure strong wireless internet connectivity. They also feature Bluetooth 5.0 that offers improved speeds and wider range than older Bluetooth standards. The Galaxy Note 20 comes with a 4,300 mAh battery while the Note 20 Ultra has a bigger 4,500 mAh battery. Both phones support 25W fast charging and Samsung claims, you can charge the device from 0 to 50 per cent in under 30 minutes. These phones also support 9W reverse wireless charging. This means you can use these phones like power banks to charge wirelessly charge smartphones and truly wireless earbuds.  

The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra perfectly balance work and play. Samsung has tied up Microsoft to include Xbox Game Pass in the Galaxy store. This pass lets you wirelessly play more than a 100 Xbox titles on your Galaxy Note 20 device. Samsung has also updated DeX, which now easily lets you connect your Note 20 to TVs or computer monitors. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra offers functionalities which no other phone can offer.
