The next generation of the world’s most popular phone, the iPhone, was announced by Apple yesterday. The first one was launched back in 2007, and nearly a decade and a half later, we are greeted by the iPhone 13. The products were announced in an online avatar event, for the world to see and we could not be more excited. The iPhone 13 lineup of 2021 contains roughly the same number of devices as last year. The products being announced are the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and the iPhone 13 mini. It is what they are made up of, that matters, and we hope we can help you choose the right one for you. The iPhones will soon be available for pre-order, so keep an eye out on reliancedigital.in and your closest Reliance Digital store. To learn more, continue reading on.

As with previous generations, there are several things that differentiate the models, that we are already familiar with, and then there are a set number of common features that benefit every device user, regardless of the model. All devices run the same powerful A15 Bionic chip. Apple says it is a 6-core processor, that is made up of two performance cores, and four efficiency cores. Apple claims it’s the fastest processor around, in any smartphone and those are wildly impressive claims. Even the most compact and cheapest model, the iPhone 13 mini, ships with one. The graphics component uses 5-cores and the Neural engine, 16 cores. Those are mind-boggling numbers, and the results should be phenomenal. Running apps on the latest generation iPhones has never been a stuttering mess, true for any recent iPhone. If you are already an iPhone user, you know this. Gaming on the new iPhones should be a breeze, and Apple even invited some game developers up on stage to explain why that was possible. The Neural Engine is an important factor of modern iPhones for its ability to optimize, to make sense of everything from text, pictures, and video. It comes in handy when using the cameras on the iPhone, in augmented reality apps and more. We’ll talk about that later.

All this hardware should come to life as iOS 15, the next generation software for the iPhones, launches around the time these new iPhones go on sale. It’s designed and tuned to run on Apple’s silicon and to take advantage of all the hardware features inside. You can read all about iOS 15 here.

In some sense, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini are closer to each other, like the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Max are. The iPhone 13 ships in a range of colours, including the iconic Product RED. The three other colours are called Starlight, Midnight, Blue and Pink. Both the devices ship with three storage options, 512GB, 256GB and the new lowest, 128GB, double that of the 64GB capacities of the last generation. This ensures we get enough space to install apps and games to our heart’s content. The real discernible difference between these two devices are the screen sizes. The standard iPhone 13 runs a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 13 mini as its name suggests, is smaller with its 5.4-inch display. It’s among the smallest smartphones around that has a certain charm. The iPhone 13 has a slightly higher resolution of 2532 x 1170 while the iPhone 13 mini is slightly lower at 2340 x 1080. These are both shamelessly high-density screens that should look brilliant in person, considering how many pixels are compressed into these compact displays. They are both True Tone displays, with HDR and Wide colour (P3) compliancy. They run Apple’s Super Retina XDR displays, that are based on OLED technology so the brightness goes all the way up to 800 nits so you can use the phone outdoors. They also render ridiculously great contrast ratios, so the blacks and truly black, not a blurry mess of greys.
The camera setups on these devices are identical too. There are two onboard, one a Wide and an Ultra Wide setup. The Ultra Wide camera can capture images and videos of up to 120 degrees field of view. You also can perform 2x zoom which is handy in some situations. The real magic however is Apple’s new Cinematic mode, which lets the camera switch focus depending on the target performer’s movement. When someone turns their head to look at someone else, the camera automatically changes focus, leading the audience to it. All of this happens seamlessly, with the power of AI, powered by the Neural chip. Photographics Styles is another feature that lets you change the colour, and style of a photo on the go, while making sure your skin tone and key elements do not change. There are a range of them to choose from.

The TrueDepth camera system at the front supports all the coolest features seen on the rear camera array. You can use the Cinematic mode, the Photographic Styles, HDR recording and more. It even doubles as the security camera that lets you log into the iPhone. All of this is powered using the new A15 Bionic chip that we spoke of earlier. The same chip is responsible for conserving battery and for keeping your security and privacy intact at times like these. Apple claims the new iPhone 13 gets more, up to two and a half hours of extra battery life while the iPhone 13 mini get an hour and a half more, which is a lot in terms of real time that we use our phones for.

A lot of what we have spoken of so far has been largely about the iPhone 13 and 13 mini. All of those features are present in some form or the other on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, that cost a bit more, but for a reason. The iPhone 13 Pro runs a 6.1-inch display, just like the standard iPhone 13 while the largest device of the lot, the iPhone 13 Pro Max runs a 6.7-inch display. The larger iPhone 13 Pro runs a resolution of 2532 x 1170, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max runs a 2778 x 1284 resolution. There is more to the displays than you think. Apple has now included 120Hz refresh rates on these displays, that make them smooth to look at. Games, apps, news feeds, video editors, and practically everything looks buttery-smooth. Apple calls these Super Retina XDR Display with ProMotion. These are the devices that truly make the Cinematic mode come to fruition.

The other area of focus for Apple has been the camera setup. There are three cameras onboard at the back, instead of the two seen on the iPhone 13 and 13 mini. The telephoto lens allows for a 3x optical zoom, in addition to the Ultra Wide and Wide lens setup. The sensor is the largest Apple claims to have put in their iPhones, and that should mean a few things for anyone dabbling with photography. The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max are potent cameras that can be used to shoot professional footage. They are also faster sensors, so you do not have to hold still for longer to capture bright, yet crisp photos void of shake. Apple even demonstrated this through their presentation. Apple says the Wide lens can capture 2.2x more light while the Ultra Wide camera captures up to 92 per cent more light, so you can capture photos with nearly no light. Apple says using all the setups available, you can shoot up to 6x optical zoom. The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max also have a LIDAR Scanner that lets you focus better and faster in near-darkness. All the iPhones are capable of shooting 4K videos even up to 60fps.

The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max come in four colours, Sierra Blue, Sliver, Gold and Graphite. They also come in the same storage options as the iPhone 13 and 13 mini, but with an additional, over-the-top, 1TB variant which is exclusive to these models. The battery improvements are also for the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, despite their extended features and performance. Apple claims an hour and a half more of battery life for the iPhone 13 Pro, and two and a half hours more for the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

There is so much to talk about the new iPhones, but we can’t wait to see them in the flesh. The new iPhones are IP68-complaint, so need not worry about accidental water splashes. They are also 5G devices, so you can buy an iPhone 13 soon, and ride them through as the 5G network adoption kicks in. The latest Wi-Fi standards are built-in too, so you can get some impressive network speeds and wireless data transfer on your home or work networks too.

We are excited here at Reliance Digital to bring you the latest Apple iPhones. We should have them available for pre-order shortly. If you want more information, you can check out your nearest Reliance Digital store, or keep checking here on RelianceDigital.in.
