Few brands have been as successful at making great smartphones as Samsung. They have been in the Android devices game from the very beginning and there are many learnings they have gained through the process. Today, few devices instil as much excitement in users as the Galaxy S series. Dare we say, they are as premium as Android devices get? On the top of this list until now, has been the Samsung Galaxy S20. A worthy replacement is almost here, and it is called the Samsung Galaxy S21. Like with the recent past, there are a couple of devices that make up the line-up, the Galaxy S21, S21+ and the S21 Ultra. Each of them is geared for specific users with corresponding prices and features. Minor differences surround the models, but they can make a world of difference depending on what you use the smartphone for.
A large portion of the features and hardware are identical except for a few, but significant differences. On the face are massive screens exposing only a minuscule punch-hole camera that gets lost when you play a movie or a game. Most of the time, the gap is hidden right within the notifications bar. The screen sizes range from 6.2 inches (1080 x 2400) for the starting S21 model, going up to 6.7 inches (1080 x 2400) for the S21+ and a massive 6.8 inches (1440 x 3200) for the S21 Ultra. All the displays support 120Hz refresh rates and use built-in fingerprint scanners. This is one of the recent advancements in screen technology that allows for smooth scrolling and gaming. It’s unlike anything you may have seen before. Other phones might have it, but most other phones do not have gorgeous screens like the new Galaxy S21 series. All the screens are certified as HDR10+, so you can enjoy pristine footage when you stream off online media streaming services.

The screens are designed to be sturdy so you can be rest assured, they can take a few bumps here and there. Samsung has placed the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on all the phones, and the devices are also rated for IP68, which means they are water and dust resistant. A little splash here and there won’t spoil your brand-new flagship smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 is made up of a series of improvements in every component. The processor is where we see the first big change and it is common across all the three devices. On paper, it’s called the Exynos 2100, a brand-new, 5G-capable chipset running an 8-core processor. It has three components — a Cortex X1 2.9 GHz core, three Cortex A78 2.8 GHz cores and four Cortex A55 2.2 GHz cores. While it sounds complicated, there is nothing this processor will not run. You get the best of both worlds, performance, and efficiency. Whether you’re using the device to browse through Instagram, or to send mails or stream movies, or even play intensive online games, you will not notice any hiccups or stuttering. The processor is bundled with 8 GB of RAM, which should help in multitasking and running games effortlessly. The more expensive S21 Ultra comes with 12 GB of RAM. The amount of RAM is also useful when it comes to future-proofing the device. You won’t have to worry about future updates of Android not running on the phone, for a while to come. Apps and updates tend to get heavier and more demanding over the years, so the excess RAM comes handy.

Storage options are an important part of the package since these devices do not come built with microSD card slots. Thankfully, you get 128 GB and 256 GB options on all three models, but you can also opt for the 512 GB variant on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. That is a lot of storage, and you will not need to worry much, whether you are storing a ton of apps, music, movies, or even going around shooting high-resolution photos and 8K videos on your new phone. Check the official product details before you choose the variant. If you want a little more space, there is OneDrive online storage support where you can back up your important data on.
One of the areas of improvements in smartphones over the years has been with the cameras. The Samsung Galaxy S21 series of smartphones take things to the next level. Three cameras make up the rear panel of the Samsung Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+. The 12MP ultra-wide camera is there to let you click photos in cramped places or wide landscapes. A regular 12MP wide-angle is next on the list. The telephoto lens is powered by a 64MP sensor. Samsung is claiming a 30x zoom on the phones.

The S21 Ultra has a significantly superior setup. There are two telephoto lenses at the rear rated at 10MP, but which Samsung claims can zoom up to 100X. The zoom feature is being called Space Zoom. The wide-angle angle camera also uses a 108MP sensor in place of the 12MP sensor in the other two S21 models. This kind of resolution gives you many opportunities to zoom into any photo clicked with it. The front selfie cameras is similar too. The S21 Ultra uses a 40MP sensor, while the S21 and S21+ use 10MP sensors.

The software works together to enhance the experience even further. Take for example, the Portrait mode that lets you make enhancements to the subject and the background, letting you express yourself in seconds. Lighting, contrast, blurring and colour adjustments are also made, for the optimum look, using the power of AI. The enhancements can also be seen when clicking photos at night. The Galaxy S21 series of phones automatically lighten up the darker regions of photos clicked in the dark, to reveals details otherwise never seen. Super Steady is another feature that takes the shakiest of videos shot and turns it into a professional-looking footage like something shot on a gimbal. This is great if you’re going around and shooting videos or vlogging, or recording videos from a moving vehicle. Video shooting can be done at a range of resolutions and frame rates. The Galaxy S21 series phones shoot 8K footage at 24fps. Yes, you read that right. 8K! You can now shoot 4K footage at 60fps too and if you want to do some impressive slow-motion shots, consider shooting at 1080p at 240fps or 720p at a whopping 960fps. You could slow down the footage by 32 times at this rate if you wanted.
As smartphones get faster and larger, and when you add 5G to that mix, battery life tends to get affected. Thankfully, Samsung has doubled-down on the battery of each phone. The starting device, the Galaxy S21 ships with a 4,000mAh battery, the S21+ 4800mAh and the large S21 Ultra comes with a whopping 5,000mAh battery. That’s a lot of power to get you through the day, and as if that wasn’t enough, there’s even Super Fast Charging. The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra for example, can be charged up to 50 per cent in just half an hour. If you do get low on battery, just recharge and a fully charged phone is never too far away. You can get rid of the cables if you want, since Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 is a common feature on all three phones. The Wireless PowerShare is another unique feature that lets you charge other phones wirelessly, even earbuds or smartwatches. Of course, all the devices should be compatible with the wireless charging feature.
As mentioned earlier, you get 5G on both the SIM cards. That is cutting-edge mobile connectivity, but you also get equally impressive home networking technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E on the S21 Ultra. The S21 Ultra can download at speeds of up to 2.4 Gbps while the other two devices can scale up to 1.2 Gbps. You could stream 4K content off the web and more, at this rate. And if you thought that was all you get, there is more. If you buy the Galaxy S21 Ultra, you also get support for the S Pen. That opens a world of possibilities but remember, you’ll need to purchase the S Pen separately but why wouldn’t you? With it, the Galaxy S21 Ultra transforms into a Samsung Note device of sorts. It’s something!

The Samsung Galaxy S-series were never only about performance, they were also designed to look great. The Galaxy S21 series come in a variety of colours, shades and options. The Samsung Galaxy S21 can be yours in Phantom Violet, Phantom Gray, Phantom White and Phantom Pink. The S21+ comes in Phantom Silver, Phantom Black and Phantom Violet. The Ultra only comes in Phantom Black and Phantom Silver. All of them are stunning and they are tasteful.
