TCL C835 Mini LED TV – Delivering the best cinematic experience

For a long time, OLED TVs have been known for their picture quality and detail. They generate their own light, so that results in deeper blacks and better contrast. However, OLED TVs have a flip side. Many models can end up with screen burning issues after prolonged exposure to static images. Since screen burning is irreversible, TV manufacturers opted for Mini LED technology.

While Mini LED TVs’ were nearly identical to OLEDs’ picture quality, they had another issue – the price. Most Mini LED TVs even today are sold well above Rs. 1,70,000 making them inaccessible to the masses. Luckily, brands like TCL have been making bold moves to make them accessible. Their first model, the TCL C825 was launched in 2021, offering features like a 120 Hz refresh rate panel, HDMI 2.1 and HDR. The brand has now produced its successor, the TCL C835, which takes things up a few notches. Here are all the changes it brings with it.

The TCL C835 sports a Mini LED panel designed to deliver brilliant brightness and greater contrast. It now comes with a new 16-bit ultra-precise light control feature that allows every pixel to be controlled independently. TCL says this allows the panel to render darker black levels. There is also a new direct drive system for backlit LED to increase responsiveness and deliver greater Mini LED uniformity.

TCL says the LEDs that emits light now have a circular shape to reduce the blooming effect on the screen. The panel supports more than a billion colours and meets 97 per cent colour gamut under the DCI-P3 standard. The C835 also has a Quantum Dot filter which is said to significantly improve the brightness and colour precision of the screen. Watching a TV in a brightly lit room sometimes gets annoying due to reflections of the surroundings. But the C835’s ultra-low reflection screen and up to 1000 nits of brightness ensure you can view content clearly in such rooms from any angle.

The TV is a 4K one and is available in three sizes. The base variant comes with a 50-inch screen, while the mid-range model offers a 65-inch screen. There is also a top-tier 75-inch model, so you can have your own home-theatre. All models support the HDR10+ feature. The TVs also have the Dolby Vision IQ feature that automatically adjusts the HDR settings based on content and lighting conditions in the room.

One of the features that make the C835 different from its competition is its 144 Hz refresh rate screen. If you are a gamer who would like to experience games like Forza Horizon 5 and Microsoft Flight Simulator on a bigger screen, there could be nothing better than this TV. The TV also supports AMD FreeSync Premium, so you get low latency, quick response times and tear-free gaming performance. Since this TV also has HDMI 2.1, you can connect it to a PlayStation 5 and newer Xbox consoles for experiencing 4K VRR gaming. The TV also supports TCL MEMC (Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation) feature that reduces motion blur and offers a smooth TV viewing experience.

The TV also excels when it comes to connectivity options. It has four HDMI ports of which one HDMI port supports 4K 144Hz gaming while another supports 4K 120 Hz for gaming. The other two are HDMI 1.4b delivering 4K 60 Hz, making them ideal for connecting a set-top box. The HDMI 4 input supports the ARC feature, so you can easily control your connected sound system. The TV also has an Optical port for quick connectivity to a soundbar. You might not need one, thanks to C835’s inbuilt 60W Onkyo branded speakers. On the wireless side, the device comes with Wi-Fi 6, so you can seamlessly stream your favourite content over the network and the internet.

The TCL C835 also looks more elegant than the older model. It has slimmer bezels and a completely redesigned stand to enhance the TV’s premium looks. The remote controller has also been redesigned for easy navigation through content and settings. The TV also comes with Google Assistant, so you can open apps, stream content and control devices using voice commands. You can also use this feature to control volume, switch between sources and even get weather updates.

The TCL C835 runs on Android 11 and uses the new Google TV interface. The interface simplifies content finding, so you can watch your favourite shows and movies without too much searching. The TV comes pre-installed with all major streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar and Apple TV. It also has an inbuilt Google Play Store for downloading apps and games.

The TV comes with Google Home, a feature that lets you control smart home devices from your TV. It also supports Apple AirPlay 2, allowing iOS device users to cast content easily. TCL has also included a Multi-View 2.0 Mode that lets you cast content from four different devices at the same time. TCL says the TV runs on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A73 CPU and has 3 GB of RAM for a smooth user experience.

The TCL C835 brings tons of major improvements over the older model. The TV delivers even more precise colours, and features like a 144Hz refreshing screen that make it stand out from the competition. The TV looks premium, and its solid audio setup makes it a complete premium package. Despite all its premium features, prices for the 55-inch variant start at Rs. 1,19,990*, which is lower than most Mini LED TVs in the market.
