Sony is a prominent audio brand, and their WH-1000XM3 headphones are considered the best noise-cancelling headphones in the world. Sony is also trying to offer the same supreme noise cancellation performance in a smaller form factor, with the WF-1000XM3 earphones. These earphones replace the older WF-1000X, that were known for their superior audio quality. The new WF-1000XM3 sport a more comfortable design, Sony’s latest noise-cancellation processor, and they features like the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 adheres to a premium and lightweight design. They are significantly more compact than the outgoing WF-1000X, which makes them more comfortable to wear. The earpieces are made of plastic, and the outer section has a matte finish to ensure the earphones attracts few fingerprints. Both earpieces come with circular touchpads, to control music playback and the voice assistant on your smartphone. Sony provides a sturdy magnetic storage case, to safely store the wireless earbuds and to charge them. The case has an LED charging indicator. Sony also bundles a small USB-C cable which can be plugged to the case to charge the earbuds.

The WF-1000XM3 comes with Sony’s Tri-hold structure, designed for a secure, comfortable fit. The earphones also use a high-friction rubber on the earbuds, to improve stability when you are wearing them. Sony includes seven sizes of earbuds, four hybrid silicon ones and three triple-comfort ones. These earphones have proximity sensors, to detect whether you are wearing one or both, earphones. Removing an earbud from one ear automatically pauses the music on both. You can simply put the earbud back, to continue playback. The Sony WF-1000XM3 earphones are available in two colors. The Black variant comes with a copper highlighted Sony logo, and the device is also available in brighter Silver colour.

The WF-1000XM3 uses Sony’s QN1E noise cancellation processor. This is the same processor found on the more expensive WH-1000XM3 headphones. Sony claims, this processor delivers 40 per cent improved noise-cancelling performance than the older model. These earphones also work with Sony’s Headphone app which further enhances the noise cancellation experience. The app comes with an in-built equalizer, that lets you tune the sound to your liking. The app has an Ambient Sound Control feature, that toggles the noise cancellation, depending on your location. The earphones use Sony’s SENSE ENGINE technology, that adjusts the ambient sound settings to suit the situation you are in.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 come with in-built touchpads, that makes controlling music a lot easier. Swiping forward and back on the right earpiece changes the track, and double-tapping the middle can be used to play, pause music, and pick calls from your connected phone. You can also tap and hold the center for three seconds to activate Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant. Tapping the touchpad on the left earpiece enables the noise cancellation mode. Placing a finger over the left earbud lowers the volume and disables the noise cancellation, so you can easily chat with people without removing the earphones.

The WF-1000XM3 also supports Sony’s 360 Reality Audio, that promises an immersive audio experience. It uses Sony’s object-based spatial audio technology, to deliver surround sound. The device also features DSEE HX (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) that upscales compressed digital music files, bringing them closer to the High-Resolution Audio. The headphone also features NFC, so you can pair them with NFC-enabled devices, just by a tap.

The Sony WF-1000XM3 earphones use 0.24mm drivers, that help render natural-sounding audio. The earphones sport Bluetooth 5.0, that significantly maintains quality audio and provides a wider range, than older Bluetooth generations. Sony has also optimized the antenna design on the WF-1000XM3, so earphones can deliver up to 30 ft range. The device also supports multi-device pairing, which means you can have multiple smart devices connected at once.

The WF-1000XM3 sport dual-microphones, for better noise cancellation. Sony claims, the earphones can catch more ambient sound from the surroundings, to deliver near-silence. Sony claims, these earphones can easily block noise from cars or airplanes that have constant, even frequencies. The Sony WF-1000XM3 also promises to deliver a strong battery life. The earphones take up to three and a half hours to fully charge, and Sony claims they deliver up to 24 hours of battery life. Sony also claims, 10-minute of charging using the bundled case gives you up to 90 minutes of playtime.
