If you have been looking for a new smartphone for less than Rs. 20,000, there is no dearth of contenders to choose from. If you are looking for a familiar brand that has a history of making smartphones, then the all-new, bold Samsung Galaxy A22 must have wandered into your search list. It’s a fresh new device that looks like its priced a lot higher up the order, and it packs a punch in more ways than you’d imagine.

The screen up front is large, measuring 6.4 inches diagonally, running a resolution of 720 x 1600. It’s rounded, so the tiny bezels surrounding it run parallel to the screen. This is no shoddy LCD panel either, it’s Samsung own Super AMOLED, that should have you drooling over it as you game or watch movies and TV shows on it. Besides being energy efficient, the biggest advantage is how deep the blacks look since AMOLED displays can entirely turn off areas of the screen if it needs to render a dark image. This means you get the deepest blacks and the brightest whites, that no LCD panel can match. Samsung claims a 600 nits brightness in addition to achieve this feat.
Other reasons for choosing the Samsung Galaxy A22 are if you demand a complete camera setup. The rear has a 48MP optically stabilized 48MP sensor primary camera. It’s what clicks almost all the photos. Details are assured, but it also helps that the phone can click photos even in low light, something that other smartphones might struggle with. The optical image stabilization is another feature and its useful for clicking photos when you are on the move, but also if you like to shoot videos without the handshake that we are used to seeing. It ensures smooth, stable video results. The cameras can shoot full HD videos, but also HD videos at 120 fps, which lets you enable slow-motion footage.

There is also an ultra-wide camera based on an 8 MP sensor, which is great for those artistic street photographs or anything that appears cramped. The ultra-wide camera has a 123-degree field of view, which lets you click photos no matter where, without having to take several steps back to fully frame the scene. There are more; there is a 2 MP depth sensor camera that helps the A22 click smooth, bokeh shots like what you see in professional photographs. The last of the cameras is a 2 MP macro unit, that lets you get up close with tiny objects and insects, if that is your thing. At a time, where video calling and remote working is a thing, the front-facing camera comes handy for more than clicking great selfies. The 13MP camera is more than enough for photos, but also making high-quality video calls, whether it is with family, educators, or work colleagues or friends from around the world.
The Galaxy A22 runs an octa-core processor, which should run the latest apps, games, even handle high-quality video calling and media consumption. There is 6 GB of RAM working alongside the processor, which should help with the multitasking and switching across apps. Samsung ships the device with 128 GB of internal storage, which should be enough no matter how many apps you typically use, but if you like to shoot a ton of videos, or store their entire media collection, there is also a microSD card slot, where you can plug in a 1 TB microSD card. That makes the A22 just as capable as any other laptop or PC as far as storage is concerned.
All the performance and features come at a price, in most smartphones, poor battery life. That is not the case with the new Samsung Galaxy A22. Its massive 5,000 mAh battery can get you through a day and more. It supports the 15W Adaptive Fast Charging that helps the phone charge back fully in no time at all using the USB Type-C port. The other bits, such as Wi-Fi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth are present, even a 3.5mm headphone jack that has been sorely lacking in many of the upcoming smartphones.
Not everything about the modern-day smartphone is about its performance and features though. Everyone wants to own a phone that also is aesthetically pleasing. The design can be a subjective factor, but it looks like Samsung has it spot on. Samsung makes it easy with two colours to choose from, Mint and Black. The rear of the phone is clean, with a minimal Samsung branding at the bottom, and the camera block on the top. The shape is modern and refined and it’s lightweight at 186g.

Samsung has also made huge leaps and bounds with its software. The A22 now ships with Android 11, complete with Samsung’s One UI software interface. There are enhancements to ensure you are productive and get very little of the unwanted apps you once got. One of the other benefits of choosing a smartphone like the Galaxy A22 is that it does not come riddled with ads and pop-ups like the cheaper alternatives at this price range. This is something rarely mentioned and removing these ads can be a chore, and quite often, impossible.

Purchasing a new smartphone is easy, because there is no shortage of options these days, but choosing the right one can be simple when you are used to familiar territory. So, if it’s a clean, powerful, bold looking device you’re looking for, why not choose the new Samsung Galaxy A22.
