Samsung A12 – Fits the budget just fine!

Samsung’s S series and Note smartphones are known by everyone. They have been around for more than a decade now. The other range of mainstream phones that inherited some of the winning features of the S series phones were the A series. They were still very robust devices, with quite a few of the smart features of the flagship bunch. Some of the popular models back in the day were the A3, A5 and A7. We have not heard about the A series phones for a while now. Most of the hype lately is all about the M series and F series. Samsung recently updated their A series with the A12. Let’s take a closer look at what it has and what this long-awaited update brings to the table.
The Samsung A12 looks fresh in its new avatar and it helps that it comes in three attractive colours, black, blue and white. The white variant is particularly interesting, since it’s so rarely seen on phones these days. The front of the phone is void of distractions, with only a teardrop camera and a minor bezel sneaking at the bottom. The rear has an array of cameras compressed into a neat square block, with a flash unit below it. The shape of the A12 is refined, with curves making up all the edges, away from the sharp-edges designs of the early A-series phones. It’s nicer to hold on to, and easier to reach the corners of the massive screen. The screen is a massive 6.5-inch one, running a resolution of 720 x 1600 (HD+)
Samsung has put a lot of emphasis on the cameras. They are quick to talk about its 48MP quad camera. It’s the primary camera in this array. The other cameras are the 2MP macro and 2MP depth cameras, followed by the 5MP ultra-wide camera. All this technology sounds nice, but it turns to reality, in the Camera app. The ultra-wide camera shoots 123-degree field of view that lets you capture wider landscapes and photos of cramped spaces. If you are the kind of person who likes clicking close-ups of insects and flowers, the macro camera and depth cameras will be more to your liking. Artistic photos often include that smooth depth of field, that the depth camera helps achieve. The depth camera also helps separate the subject from the background. It works particularly well with the Live Focus that lets you filter out the subject to make it stand out. You won’t even need an image editor to achieve this feat. The front-facing camera is not shoddy either. There is an 8MP camera that is more than enough for clicking selfies, even making video calling. All the cameras can shoot videos at Full HD (1920x 1080) at 30 fps.

The captured photos need the help of the processor to make a lot of this magic happen. The A12 comes equipped with the right hardware for the job. It’s an octa-core processor, with 4GB of RAM. There are two variants available, one with 64GB of storage and the other with 128GB. That is enough space for all your favourite apps and games but if you think you need more, don’t fret. The A12 support microSD cards up to 1TB in capacity. The price difference between the A12 64GB and 128GB is just a Rs. 1,000 (at the time of writing this) so you could just opt for the larger storage model since the difference isn’t much.
Other impressive features of the A12 are things that we need regularly. No one likes a phone that need not be charged every few hours. That should not be a problem with the A12. It houses a large 5,000mAh battery, and the 15W fast charging that should help you top up the phone in little time. Once charged, you should be able to go through your day without ever having to reach out to the charger. Samsung even claims it can run 109 hours with audio playback on.
Other improvements are also in the operating system. It runs Android 10, but that isn’t all. It runs Samsung’s One UI Core which has its own set of optimisations and a nice dark mode. Wi-Fi 802.11n is supported and that is more than enough to stream full HD content from the web. It also has Bluetooth 5.0 for all your wireless peripheral connectivity needs.

Budget smartphones tend to lose a lot of the feature of the more expensive flagship devices. The A12 has a good set of features, and fortunately, security isn’t one of discarded features. There is a fingerprint scanner build into the side of the phone, so it’s easy to reach out. Samsung’s strong Knox security protection ensures phone does not fall prey to malware and other security threats. There are also other nice things to look forward to on this device, such as the brand-new Type-C port and of course, the trusty old 3.5mm audio jack. You won’t need to go hunting for wireless earphones or annoying adapters with this phone.
Clearly, the Samsung Galaxy A12 despite its low price, it’s one of the most reliable smartphones that you could easily use for a few years before upgrading.  Reliance Digital is the best place to pick your next smartphone.
