Samsung 49-inch N5370 Full HD Smart TV Review

Every year Samsung leaves a blazing trail in the consumer electronics space. New TV models are announced and launched. Regardless of the size and technologies, these TVs are categorized into alphabetical series, but this year we came across Samsung’s Concert Series of TVs. Like many other popular TV brands, Samsung is also joining its hands with the Make for India campaign by designing the Concert Series of TVs. These TVs are categorized into Smart Concert (Smart) and Joy Concert (Non-smart) TVs and are available in 32, 43 and 49 inch sizes. We got a chance to review the 49-inch N5370 full HD Smart TV priced at Rs. 60,600*. To check the performance, we put the Samsung N5370 through several tests and this is how it performed.

Design and Build

Look-wise, the Samsung N5370 is very basic, featuring a semi-slim design. This TV has a plastic build with a 49-inch screen fitted within the bezel. There is a Samsung logo engraved on the bezel below. There isn’t much happening at the front of the TV, but the back is little different. The Samsung N5370 is among the Concert Series of TVs, which means it is designed to deliver a full-blown audio performance than what is expected of traditional TVs. This TV is equipped with four speakers, two on the top and the other two at the bottom. There is a plastic grill on top of all the four speakers.

All the connectivity ports are at the back, partly towards the left, which makes them easy to reach even if the TV is wall mounted. You can choose to place the Samsung N5370 on a table or any other flat surface with the help of a two-piece mini-arc stand. These are strong and sturdy enough to hold the 49-inch TV on the top. A standard TV remote is also bundled and it is full of playback and navigation buttons, which takes some time getting used to.

Features

The 49-inch Samsung N5370 features a full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. This TV is powered by a quad-core processor, ensuring all apps and the Tizen OS to run smoothly. The major highlight of this Concert TV are the four channel surround sound speakers. Each channel delivers 10 watts of sound output, a total of 40 watts which is recommendable. Samsung has very smartly placed the speakers on the four sides of the TV and this should help fill your home with music. We have tested the audio performance, which we have mentioned a little later in our review.

Like most 4K TVs, HDR is also becoming commonplace in full HD TVs. Samsung follows the trend with the 49-inch N5370. This should enhance the picture quality to make it look more realistic and vibrant. When it comes to entertainment, there are several pre-installed apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, JioCinema and more, to keep you entertained for hours. With the built-in set-top box (CAM module) feature, you can continue watching direct satellite content on this TV. This is a small device mounted in a CI slot at the back of the TV, which eliminates the need of an actual set-top box and messy wires around the TV.

In terms of connectivity, the Samsung N5370 comes with only one USB port. This restricts you from connecting too many external USB devices to the TV. There are two HDMI ports, including one HDMI ARC port. You can choose to connect a soundbar or a laptop through HDMI ports. Additionally, there is a LAN port, digital audio out and component ports. Like any other Smart TVs, even the N5370 supports screen mirroring and DLNA. The SmartThings app lets you connect multiple devices to the TV to stream content with ease. This app doubles up as a TV remote control as well.

Performance

Starting with its simple and intuitive interface, we decided to take a quick tour of the home screen. Everything from quick settings to apps were neatly arranged in a tiled format. Navigating through the menus is easy, thanks to the quad-core processor responsiveness. All the options in the Settings menu have a snippet, explaining the benefits of the feature.

To check the picture quality, we used a drive plugged in to the TV. We started scrolling through full HD resolution photos. Using out-of-the box picture settings, images appeared a little gaudy and saturated, but they were well detailed. We had to make some fine tweaks to the contrast, sharpness and colours, while keeping the brightness and backlight to maximum. Dark scenes and skylines in some of the nature scenes look really impressive. We also played some sample full HD and HDR clips to further check the TV’s performance. The Samsung N5370 detects HDR content immediately and the quality was really good.

To test Samsung’s claims of the improved speaker setup, we played some sample MP3 tracks and noticed that the sound was very flat at first. This made us dig through the sound settings to get it right. Most of us watch a lot of YouTube content and we decided to test it too. We played music videos and movie trailers where the TV was able to offer a loud and clear sound that was enough to fill even a large room. You may have to crank the volume above 50 percent. If you have your favourite music stored on your phone, the SmartThings app makes things easy by letting you stream it to your TV.

Verdict

The 49-inch Samsung N5370 is a simple looking TV, equipped with a full HD screen and HDR support. Its 40W speaker setup is a unique features, while we’ve seen the rest before on other TVs. The N53070 is a bit pricier than other full HD models. If you are looking for a large screen TV, the Samsung N5370 is a good buy if you are looking for a large sized model. If not, you can also consider some smaller sized 4K Smart TVs that have seen major price drops over the past year.
