Reconnect Thump+ Review – Why pay more for good sound?

There are endless party speaker options in the market, but they can also be expensive. For those looking for lower priced options, the new Reconnect Thump+ makes perfect sense. This is a mid-size speaker, promising a 20W output, with dual passive radiators and has a waterproof design. The device is aesthetically pleasing too, but while everything looks perfect on paper, how well does it perform in the real world? We tested it out to find out the answer.

Design

Most speakers in this price range usually come with quality compromises. You might notice the occasional creaking noises and loose ends but the Thump+ is surprisingly well made for its price. It’s a well-constructed device with an IPX5 rating so it can be used by a pool-side or a beach, without worrying about the occasional water splashes. The silicon buttons have a dustproof design, which means you can even use them with dirty hands. Their feedback felt accurate and responsive. While most of the body is made of hard polycarbonate, the front of the speaker has a metallic mesh which adds to its rough look. The base is flat and comes with rubberized grips.

Behind the mesh, you will find the speaker with an RGB LED ring light. These lights sync with the music, but there is also an option to turn them off if needed. The sides house passive radiators for the bass. All the input ports are placed at the rear with a rubberized flap for waterproofing. Despite being a mid-size speaker, it isn’t as heavy as it looks. Carrying it around becomes easy with the ergonomic handlebar. The device has a type-C port for charging, so you can even charge it with your phone’s charger.

Features

The Reconnect Thump+ lets you connect devices in multiple ways. On the wireless side, the speakers come with Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity which offers up to 10m of range. On the wired side, the device has an AUX and a USB port, so you can play music from your phone or pen drive. The device also supports FM radio. The speaker features a 3,600 mAh battery which is good enough for a speaker of this size. It claims up to 4.5 hours of uninterrupted music playback which seems better than most speakers in this price range. This means you can keep the party going without having to recharge the speakers now and then.

Performance

We have seen many speakers in this price range, and while most of them sound decent, some can be bad too. The Thump+ is impressive with its stable audio performance. We tried all genres of music, but the most played track was Wake me up by Avicii. This song has some high vocals, with mids and a strong bass. The Thump+ can render most tones well, and we did enjoy every second of the track. We also played tons of Bollywood music, and there were no problems here either. The speaker is good for small parties or a home or office filled with people.

Since the device has a 3.5mm jack, I connected it to my monitor while playing GTA V on my PlayStation 5. The sound output here was also very impressive. Everything from pedestrians talking in the background, to the car’s engine sounded spot-on with the Thump+. Since the speaker is loud and clear, you can also connect it to your TV and use it as a soundbar if you want to.

During our tests, the Reconnect Thump+ gave us nearly 4 hours of battery life. This is pretty good considering the size of the device. The device comes with LED indicators at the top which denote the battery status. It makes a beeping sound as the battery drops below 10 per cent. The speaker takes roughly 4 hours for a full charge.

Conclusion

The Reconnect Thump+ is a great-sounding speaker for the price it comes at. It is built well, comes with waterproofing and has all the needed input ports. Aesthetics add-ons like the RGB light and handle bar make it a nice complete package. Feel free to visit your nearest Reliance Digital store to try it out.
