Smartphones are not short of traditional computers these days. You can surf the web, check emails and even work on documents and spreadsheets on the go. While most entry-level smartphones handle basic stuff smoothly, activities like gaming and photography require solid performance, something possibly only on premium phones. Luckily, brands like Realme have managed to change this image with their affordable mid-range offerings. The Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro are the latest mid-range smartphones that could take expectations to a new level. High-end components have been offered in a premium design that look better than even some high-end smartphones. Can these phones be the right bet for you?

Realme phones are known for their sophisticated designs, but their recent “Dare to Leap” branding on the back panels wasn’t tasteful for many. Luckily, the new Realme 9 series phone drops it. The glass back now looks way classier than before, and the Sunrise Blue even comes with a colour-changing design. Realme calls it the Light Shift Design which changes from blue to bright red under the sun, and changes back to its original colour in room lighting. This is a cool feature you can boast about. If you prefer more traditional colours, both the Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus are available in Midnight Black and Aurore Green options.

The phones now adhere to modern designs and have flat edges like most premium flagship devices. The Realme 9 Pro weighs 195g while the Realme 9 Pro Plus weighs 185g. Both phones have slim designs, so you can comfortably hold them while watching movies and playing games. The Pro model comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor to unlock the device while the Plus model has an in-display one. The Pro Plus model’s in-display sensor also doubles up as a heart rate sensor, so that’s another feature to boast. Both devices support facial recognition feature. If you are a fan of wired headphones, you’ll be also happy to know they even have a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom.

The Realme 9 Pro comes with a 6.6-inch LCD display. The Pro Plus model has a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen for wider contrast and deeper blacks. This screen also supports a 90Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and gaming experience. These phones come with Gorilla Glass 5 at the front to provide protection against scratches and accidental falls. Both displays support HDR 10 which makes them perfect for media consumption. Realme says the displays go up to 600 nits of peak brightness, making the visible even under the brightly lit sun.

The Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus are designed to deliver performance. The Pro model houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 CPU which is powerful enough to run everyday social media apps, web browsers and deliver a smooth multi-tasking experience. The Realme 9 Pro Plus houses a MediaTek 920 CPU. It is a more powerful processor with better GPU performance which should let you run games like Battlegrounds India, Call of Duty: Mobile, Minecraft and Asphalt 9: Airborne in high graphics settings. This phone also uses Realme’s Vapour Cooling technology to keep the internals cool even under heavy usage. This means you can expect a consistent performance during your long gaming sessions.

The Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus are available in 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM. The base variant of these devices come with 128 GB of UFS 2.2 storage, while the higher-end models come with 256 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Both devices support microSD cards for storage expansion and dual SIM 5G connectivity. Wi-Fi 6 is present, as is Bluetooth 5 supporting aptX HD codec for a lossless wireless music listening experience.

These phones also shine in the camera department. The Realme 9 Pro comes with a 64MP f/1.8 main camera along with a 2MP macro unit. The phone also has an 8 MP ultrawide lens offering a 119-degrees field of view. The 9 Pro Plus has a 50 MP Sony IMX766 lens supporting premium features like OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation). This phone can record up to 4K 30 fps videos, making the phone perfect for capturing travel videos. Both phones support Expert mode, so you can take manual control over most camera settings. They also come with Long Exposure Mode which should come in handy while clicking low-light photos. The 9 Pro and Plus share the same 16 MP front camera that is capable of recording full HD videos.

The Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus run Realme UI 3.0 over Android 12. The new UI is said to reduce RAM utilization by nearly 30 per cent, so you can multitask seamlessly. This latest version uses a host of animations and transitions along with custom themes. Updated features like Floating Window 2.0 also lets you play YouTube videos in the background, which would otherwise require a YouTube Premium subscription. The company promises two major Android updates, making the Realme 9 Pro and Plus solid future-proof smartphones.

The Realme 9 Pro and 9 Pro Plus are some of the best mid-range smartphones out there right now. They are perfect everyday-use phones which can also handle gaming and photography needs. The Realme 9 Pro is priced at Rs 17,999* while the 9 Pro Plus comes in at a price of Rs. 24,999*. The phones are now available at your nearest Reliance Digital store, and you can also have them home delivered by ordering from www.reliancedigital.in.
