The mid-range mobile segment has gotten a lot competitive over the past few years. Today’s mid-range phones come with excellent build quality and hardware at affordable prices. There are a variety of options from popular and lesser-known brands. Realme is a newer smartphone brand, launched in 2018. It quickly gained popularity among smartphone enthusiasts. The brand is best known for its powerful and stylish device offerings, at affordable prices.

Realme has continued to offer the same combination with the newly launched Realme 6 Pro. It is one of the first mid-range smartphones to sport a 90Hz display, a feature thought limited to flagship smartphones.

Realme phones are known for their flashy designs and the Realme 6 Pro is one of the flashiest phones from the brand. The device has a plastic chassis while the rear is made of glass. The design offers a zig-zag-neon-effect that changes colours depending on the angle you look at it. Realme 6 Pro is 168mm tall, 75.8mm wide and it weighs close to 195 grams. The screen comes with Gorilla Glass 5 that protects against scratches. The screen also sports an in-display punch-hole camera, like expensive flagship smartphones. The Realme 6 Pro comes with a three-layer waterproofing design to protect the phone from accidental water damage. The device is available in Lightning Blue and Lightning Orange colours.

The Realme 6 Pro sports a 6.6-inch full HD+ display that runs a screen resolution of 2400 x 1080. The screen has a 90.6 per cent screen-to-body ratio, making it a nearly edge-less display. The most unique feature of the display is its 90Hz refresh rate. The refresh rate is a measure for the number of times a screen redraws an image. Higher the fresh rate, lesser the motion blur, and clearer the image. This means, Realme 6 Pro’s 90Hz refresh rate will make graphic rendering smoother and it will deliver an overall-fluid touch experience. The display also comes with 480 nits of brightness which makes the display bright enough to read outdoors.

The Realme 6 Pro runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor. This processor features Qualcomm’s AI Engine and a dedicated Qualcomm Hexagon Tensor Accelerator which is designed to offer seamless gaming performance on mid-range smartphones. The Realme 6 Pro also sports an Adreno 618 GPU, which means high-end games such as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG: Mobile) should run without any stuttering. The phone is offered in 6GB and 8GB RAM configurations. Both the variants have 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage as standard. You also get an option of a dedicated microSD card slot that lets you expand the storage up to 512 GB.

The Realme 6 Pro runs on Android 10 OS and it features the Realme UI launcher. The new UI takes a shift towards a stock Android look, which means simplistic design and an easy-to-use interface. Realme claims the new UI is developed after taking customer feedback so users can have a hassle-free Android experience. Realme also offers tons of customisation options such as icons packs, themes, and various transitions effects so users can customise the interface to their liking.

The Realme 6 Pro comes with a quad-camera configuration at the rear and a dual-selfie in-display cameras like expensive flagship smartphones. The primary camera is a 64MP unit while the secondary camera is an 8MP ultra wide-angle unit. The ultra wide-angle lens offers a 108-degree field-of-view making it great for landscape photography. There is also a telephoto lens that offers up to 2x optical zoom. The list of rear cameras ends with a 2MP macro lens, which is great for clicking close-up pictures.

The Realme 6 Pro’s primary front camera sports a 16MP unit. The secondary front camera is an 8MP ultra wide-angle unit, that offers a wide field-of-view which is great for clicking group selfies. The camera app also offers tons of features such as AI recognition, advanced HDR mode, and automatic colour correction. It also has a Pro mode, which lets users take control of camera controls such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and more. Both the front and the rear cameras support OIS and can record 4K videos at 30 fps.

The Realme 6 Pro is a dual-SIM smartphone with LTE support. The phone comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac for seamless wireless connectivity and Bluetooth 5.1 for connecting peripherals. Realme claims the device is one of the first mid-range smartphones to sport a Dual Frequency GPS, which will make navigation using apps such as Google Maps even more accurate. The phone comes with a single-speaker setup along with Dolby Atmos support that emulates a 3D audio effect. The phone sports a dual-mic setup, which helps in suppressing background noise. The Realme 6 Pro comes with a massive 4300mAh battery. It’s claimed to deliver up to 14 hours of battery life even under heavy usage. Realme also bundles a 30W fast charger which should fully charge the device in under an hour.

The line between high-end and mid-range phone is slowly diminishing. Today’s mid-ranges devices sport powerful hardware, great cameras and are even designed to look like flagship models. The Realme 6 Pro is the perfect example of it. The phone has the perfect combination of design, performance and high-end features such as a 90Hz display at an affordable price of Rs 17,999*.
