Our e-mail inboxes aren’t the only ones to see spam, our phone receives tens, sometimes hundreds of SMS’, few of which are valuable. The hundreds of SMS’ could be offers, reminders, alerts, hoaxes, and worse. Most of us ignore them except for the OTPs, delivery updates, banking notifications and some personal messages. You can’t really ignore SMS’ if you tried and cleaning up the inbox takes a lot of time and patience. Thankfully though, there is a solution from the place you might least expect it – Microsoft. SMS Organizer is an Android app that cleans up your SMS inbox and it does so many more amazing things, it’s surprising this free Android app was made by Microsoft. Download it from the Google Play Store and set it as the default SMS manager. We’ll tell you more about it.

Let’s start with what’s most important – clearing the SMS inbox. There are many things you can do but SMS Organizer does a few things automatically. It figures out the promotions, spam, personal messages and puts them into folders for you. It does it for the SMS’ you’ve received so far and the ones to come. All the SMS’ are sorted into Personal Messages, Transactions, Promotions and Starred. You can navigate through them using swipe gestures. You can also mark all the messages as read in just a tap or two. This is great for OTPs and promotions. Another convenient thing about SMS Organizer is that it lets you copy OTPs, the moment they arrive. Only the actual digits are copied, not the entire message.

Many of the SMS’ we receive tend to be OTPs for banking services, online shopping, logins, etc. They amass over a period, and SMS Organizer lets you automatically delete them after a specific period. You can do this for the promotions and other spam you receive. You can set this by going into the Settings menu and tapping on Message rules. The same permission can also be set for promotional messages.

SMS Organizer lets you mark specific senders as spam or promotions. You can also block numbers and services entirely. This way, your primary inbox only has relevant messages. You can also prioritize messages by allowing them to notify you. Other messages will arrive into your inbox, but never pop up alerts. There are controls for this under the Settings > Notifications menu that you can customize.

Handling SMS’ might be the primary purpose of this app but SMS Organize does a number of other things well. Managing your finances is one of them. It’s an unexpected feature but it’s there. SMS Organizer neatly organizes all your expenses, for all your accounts. This includes bank accounts, credit cards, mobile wallets and more. It even reminds you of credit card bills so you don’t need to worry about them. You can look up details for every bit of expenses, even know when you withdrew money from a ATM. All these features are available under the Finances tab. You can even use the phone’s security feature to lock it. Fingerprint scanning is supported too.

SMS Organizer can make sense of other bits of information that arrive by SMS. These include delivery details for parcels, so you know exactly when your delivery is expected. Similarly travel plans, plane schedules, even the option of booking a cab is present in SMS Organizer. These details show up under the Reminders tab. You can even look up the entire history of orders and purchases made. The app even displays offers close to you and some deals. You can opt to disable this menu entirely if you wish from the Settings > ‘Show Offers tab’ option.

Some of the other functionalities expected in any SMS manager are present. This includes the option of replying to messages quickly using scripted replies. You can also add custom ones, even include signatures to all messages like you would in e-mails. Signatures can be set from the Settings > General > Signature menu. You can even star messages as important and refer to them easily, saving yourself the trouble of searching for them.

Another helpful feature of SMS Organizer is the ability to backup and restore messages. This is particularly handy when you’re migrating from one device to another. It ensures you never lose any messages. Backups are made to your Google Drive account, and you can choose to schedule them as well.

SMS Organizer is an impressive app and it makes life much simpler by doing some of the difficult work of managing messages for you. The list of features is never ending. Another cool feature is the ability to schedule messages right in the compose screen, so you can compose messages and have them sent out automatically. You will probably find more fun stuff you can do. All we can say is that it’s a life-saver and you might be find it handy in your day-to-day life. Give it a go and let us know what you think.
