It’s safe to say that the line between mid-range and flagship phones has nearly disappeared. Today’s mid-ranger devices bring more power, performance with premium designs at very accessible prices. One brand that has been at the forefront of shaping this trend is Oppo, and its latest contender, the F23 5G takes this shift even further. Priced at just 24,999, the Oppo F23 5G delivers a great screen, a powerful CPU, and a design that’s better looking than some flagships. But, can it stand strong among the rapidly increasing mid-range competition?

The Oppo F23 5G barely looks like a mid-range device. It comes with flat edges, has a nearly edgeless display and is also lightweight. Oppo has also introduced a new Bold Gold colour with a shimmering and smudge-resistant surface. The colour stands out for regular shades, but if you prefer a subtle design there is also a model in a cool Black colour. The device comes with a 3D curved back for a comfortable grip.

Oppo says the phone is also extremely durable. It passes stress and drop tests, claiming the device can take on everyday bumps without any hassles. Despite being tough, the phone is only 8.5mm thick and weighs only 192 grams. This makes it lighter and slimmer than even some of the popular flagship smartphones.

Oppo has ensured you never feel short of performance with the F23 5G. This device runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, a popular processor among mid-range smartphones. It has enough power to take on everyday apps, and games smoothly. Oppo says the 6nm CPU is not only powerful but also power efficient. This means you can get maximum performance without worrying about battery life. The phone comes with 8 GB of RAM which is enough for smooth multitasking. You can easily switch between apps, and games while browsing the internet or listening to music.

There is also 256GB UFS 2.0 storage onboard, which is great for fast data transfer speeds. Having fast storage helps launch apps quickly and reduces start-up times. The phone also has a microSD card slot supporting 1TB of external storage. This feature is rarer these days and is beneficial if you click lots of photos and videos. The device runs on Android 13 and uses Oppo’s latest ColourOS 13.1. It introduces a bunch of new features like Screen Translate which can translate the screenshot text in over 100 languages.

Speaking of cameras, the device has a 64MP main shooter with an f/1.8 aperture. Oppo says the camera is capable of delivering photos with the richest detail, the most vibrant colours with perfectly balanced lighting. It is also said to work flawlessly in low-light settings. It also comes with a dedicated Ultra-Night Mode that composites multiple frames together, to reduce noise and improve image clarity. The phone also has a 2MP depth sensor for adding a DSLR-like bokeh effect in photos. The device’s 2MP macro unit is also very impressive. Oppo calls it 40X Microlens and promises great close-up shots.

For selfies, the Oppo F23 5G has a 32MP front-facing camera. The phone is capable of recording full HD videos which is good enough for everyday social media content. Oppo has also included a Dual-View Video Mode that allows simultaneous recording from front and rear cameras.

The phone comes with a large 6.7-inch display, the perfect size for gaming and watching content. Oppo says the display uses an IPS panel and delivers excellent colour accuracy. Where most mid-range phones run 90 Hz refresh rates, this one comes with a 120 Hz panel like high-end devices. It makes the UI livelier and the gaming experience smoother. It also supports a 6-level adaptive frame rate for lowering power consumption. The screen also has 680 nits of peak brightness, making content readable in bright outdoor and indoor lighting.

The Oppo F23 is a dual-SIM 5G device with support for Wi-Fi 6. There is also Bluetooth 5.1 with A2DP, LE and aptX HD support for a seamless wireless audio connection. The device also comes with a 3.5 mm jack if you prefer a wired music experience. The phone also has a side-placed fingerprint sensor for unlocking the device. You can also use it to authorize payments and unlock apps. The device comes with a 5,000 mAh battery which Oppo claims will deliver an all-day battery life. The device also supports 67W fast charging and claims a 50 per cent charge in just 18 minutes.

The Oppo F23 is one of the most impressive mid-range smartphones under Rs. 25,000. It comes with best-in-class features like a powerful camera setup, a premium design and performance which is adequate for everyday use.
