We see many mid-range smartphones come with all-glass designs in attempts to mimic flagship model looks. Oppo has decided to take the construction of mid-range smartphones a step further, by launching the F17. It is the first mid-range device to come with a premium, leather-finish design. Its construction is similar to Oppo’s flagship, the Find X2 Pro and the phone promises to be a no-compromise mid-range device but with an affordable price.

The Oppo F17 looks nothing like a mid-range device. The new leather finish design is specially crafted to provide an exquisite texture. It also helps cut down the weight, making the F17 even sleeker and lighter than its predecessor. The device is one of the lightest mid-range smartphones, weighing just 163 grams. The F17 comes in three striking colours. The Classic Silver and the Navy Blue offer sophisticated looks, while the Dynamic Orange is more for the style-conscious.

The Oppo F17 uses a precision-cut aluminium frame that gives the device its structural rigidity. It comes with rounded edges, to provide a comfortable and secure grip. The F17’s screen features Gorilla Glass 3 to protect it against scratches. It also sports an in-display fingerprint reader that lets you unlock the device, purchase apps and make payments. The phone also features Oppo’s AI face detection, that works along with the front selfie camera to unlock the device.

The Oppo F17 sports a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, running a screen resolution of 1080 x 2400. Super AMOLED displays use self-emitting diodes, to render remarkable images with deep blacks and high contrasts. AMOLED displays don’t need backlighting like LCD panels, and they deliver accurate colours and wide viewing angles. This makes the F7 is a good choice for watching movies, reading e-books and playing games. The screen also features a 180Hz touch sampling rate, to ensure every touch input gets an accurate and instant response.

The display is nearly edge-less with a 90.7 per cent, screen-to-body ratio. It also features Oppo’s AI Adaptive Eye Protection that automatically chooses optimal colour temperature and brightness. Oppo claims the screen reaches as low as 2 nits to protect your eyes in the dark. The screen also promises to offer excellent outdoor visibility, thanks to its 600 nits of peak brightness.

The Oppo F17 is available in two configurations. The entry-spec variant comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The higher-spec variant sports 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Both variants use UFS 2.1, that results in faster read and write speeds, and it also helps load apps quickly. The device runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662, a mid-range, 8-core processor with speeds going right up to 2 GHz. Oppo claims this processor is designed to run every app and game with ease. The F17 also comes with an Adreno 610 GPU, that ensures the phone delivers butter-smooth performance while playing high-end gaming titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile.

The F17 ships with Android 10, and it runs Oppo’s ColourOS 7.2. The new OS has a cleaner look, that looks like the stock Android interface. Oppo has now streamlined the design to give the interface a more spacious look. Icons are now much smaller, and the OS uses fluid animations and theme packs. The OS also has a dark mode that takes advantage of the OLED panel’s ability to dim all the way down, to reduce eye strain. Oppo has introduced an Intelligent Battery Saver Mode, that learns the user’s habits and automatically put certain apps to sleep when they’re unlikely to be used. The ColourOS 7.2 also features a dedicated Game Mode, that streamlines notifications, for an uninterrupted gaming experience. The phone also supports Android 10 gestures that make navigating through apps and menus on this large screen phone easier.

The Oppo F17 comes with a quad-camera configuration. The primary 16MP camera offers an f/2.2 aperture that lets you click great low-light pictures. It also supports EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization), and it records full HD videos up to 30 fps. The device also records HD slow-motion videos up to 120 fps. The secondary 8MP wide-angle camera comes with 119 degrees field-of-view. It covers a large area which is great for clicking landscape and architecture. The phone also promises to click good close-up photos, with its 2MP macro camera. The phone also has a 2MP depth unit, to clicking DSLR-like portrait photos.

The Oppo F17 also promises to capture great selfies with its 16MP front-facing camera. It uses a Sony IMX471 sensor, that promises to click wide-angle selfies even in low-light. Oppo’s camera app offer tons of features such as AI recognition, advanced HDR, and automatic colour correction. It even has a Pro mode, which lets users take control of camera controls such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO, and more.

The Oppo F17 is a dual-SIM LTE device that comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac for strong internet connectivity. The device also features Bluetooth 5.0 for connecting it to audio solutions and peripherals. The device sports a 4,015 mAh battery, which means it should easily last a day or more under moderate usage. Oppo also bundles a 30W VOOC 4.0 charger, that promises to charge the phone fully in just 56 minutes.

The Oppo F17 stands out with its elegant leather-feel design. The device comes with all the bells and whistles such as a powerful processor, a colour-rich AMOLED screen and quad camera that click good pictures. All these features for a starting price of Rs. 17,990, makes the Oppo F17 a no-compromise mid-range device.
