We know OnePlus for one reason – making flagship smartphones affordable. However, things have changed lately. Their recent launches have been pricier. OnePlus launched the OnePlus Nord, as an effort to go back to the roots. OnePlus continues to build up this image with its successor, the Nord 2, an affordable version of the OnePlus 9 phones. It shares nearly the same features while blurring the line between flagship and mid-range phones.

The Nord 2 is the first phone in the OnePlus’ history to use a MediaTek CPU. OnePlus says the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI CPU offers similar performance to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870, a processor seen on the more expensive OnePlus 9R. The 6nm processor makes the top-notch performance more accessible while also offering more power efficiency. High-end games, apps, and heavy multitasking won’t bring the Nord 2 down.

You can choose from two configurations – an entry-level variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage or the high-end variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Both variants use UFS 3.1 storage, so opening apps, games and moving data can be done quickly. The phone has Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. It comes with a 4,500 mAh battery and it ships with the latest 65W Warp charger. OnePlus claims it can charge the device to 100 per cent in just 30 minutes.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is armed with a Mali-G77 MC9 GPU for gamers. Its solid graphics performance can easily handle high-end games. The screen’s 90Hz refresh rate adds smoothness to games. Since games such as Battlegrounds Mobile India, Minecraft, Gear.Club, and Modern Combat Versus already support 90fps, this is a must-have feature. The screen has a 180Hz touch sampling rate for quick and accurate response.

The screen further impresses with its 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display. AMOLED displays render deeper blacks, better contrast and dynamic range. It makes watching images, movies, and even reading text more immersive, both indoors and outdoors. The display also supports HDR10+, so you can enjoy watching HDR content from Netflix and other streaming platforms. OnePlus has also introduced a new Screen AI Colour Enhancement feature that delivers a more colourful content watching experience.

The OnePlus Nord 2 has three cameras. The primary camera uses a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor. It supports Expert Mode that lets to take control most of the camera’s settings. It also supports Optical Image Stabilisation and 4K 30 fps video recording. The second camera is the ultrawide snapper with an 8MP Sony IMX 355 sensor. It offers a 119-degrees field-of-view making capturing landscapes and a large group of people easy. This camera supports the Night Mode for low-light photography. The third camera is a 2MP monochrome sensor for black and white photography. On the front is a 32MP selfie camera with an Auto HDR feature. The camera offers a wide-angle view, ideal for clicking selfies and recording vlogs.

The Nord 2 comes with Gorilla Glass at the front and back. It is the same size and shape as the original Nord, but with increased durability. The device has curved edges, so you can comfortably hold it in your hands. It comes with OnePlus’ signature physical slider that was missing on the original Nord. The Nord 2 ditches the side fingerprint sensor for an in-display one.

The colour options for the Nord 2 are also interesting. The Blue Haze variant’s glossy finish is like the original Nord. The Grey Sierra offers a matte finish, something great to keeps fingerprints and smudges away.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is the first smartphone to run on Oxygen OS 11.3. It borrows features from ColourOS after the Oppo and OnePlus merger. The new OS introduces a fresher design, rounder icons, and more customisation options. Signature OnePlus features such as the Zen Mode 2.0, Dark Mode scheduling, and Smart Gallery are also present. OnePlus says the new firmware runs without a hitch and makes the phone even faster.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is a major update in every sense. It ticks everything you want from a flagship device, so be it the premium design, cameras, and top-notch performance. It’s a game-changing mid-ranger, especially considering its affordable price of Rs. 29,999*.
