Nokia 7.2 – A solid upgrade to an already great phone

Nokia’s dominance in the 2000s is seeing a revival of sorts, under the guidance of HMD Technologies. There have been a host of new phones launched over the years. Their iconic affordable and mainstream phone must be the Nokia 7.1, a well-built device with a bold, refreshing design and good specs. It was a package that was hard to fail, and it felt like a genuinely good smartphone for well under Rs. 20,000. HMD has an upgrade to it, called the Nokia 7.2 and it comes in at a similar price as the Nokia 7.1. What does that mean for you though? A lot, it turns out!

A lot of the improvements on the Nokia 7.2 surrounds the screen. The Nokia 7.2 is now a larger phone, housing a 6.3-inch PureDisplay IPS screen in place of the older 5.8-inch one. This adds 20 grams to the weight, although the change is barely noticeable. The benefit other than the screen size is a larger 3,500mAh battery instead of a 3,060mAh one. The screen size should allow you for an enjoyable gaming and content viewing experience, while not having to recharge your phone as often. Fast Charging 3.0 is present too, so you can go from 0 to 100 per cent charge in no time at all. Nokia even claims it tested their device under modest usage conditions and it lasted 2 days. Frankly, being able to comfortably go through a day of usage is a great thing, and when you can charge your phone in no time at all, what’s to worry?
The Nokia 7.1 was one of the first generation of phones to ship with a notch in the display. The good news is that large notch has been replaced by a minimal, teardrop notch. This means a larger, less obstructive screen for all of us. The camera at the front on the older phone was an 8MP one, which now gets upgraded to 20MP. The cameras that should interest you are the ones at the rear. The Nokia 7.2 receives a triple-camera setup much like most of the recent premium smartphones. There is a massive 48MP camera at the rear, an ultra-wide camera and a depth sensor that lets you capture bokeh shots for portraits and macros. Not only do you get accurate colours and details in the photos, it can also shoot great photos in low lighting conditions. This is useful when you’re clicking photos in the late evenings or indoors.
At the heart of the Nokia 7.2 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor. This is an upgrade over the Nokia 7.1’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 636. There are two variants of the 7.2, one with 4GB and the other, 6GB RAM. This kind of performance is enough for pretty much every app you might use, also for some gaming. The storage options are 64GB and 128GB which make them ideal for storing a lot of games, apps and movies. If you aren’t content with the storage, you can upgrade it using a microSD card. The Nokia 7.2 supports a maximum of 512GB microSD cards, which should be more than enough for any purpose, even shooting high-resolution videos. We should mention, the Nokia 7.2 supports 4K video shooting up to 30fps.
The thing that makes the Nokia 7.2 especially attractive is that it’s an Android One device. This means several benefits for the user. For one, you get access to Android updates quickly, much faster than what other brands offer. You can expect to be using Android 10 very soon too. These phones also don’t contain the bloatware a lot of other vendors force into devices. These tweaks make the Nokia 7.2 a fast device that’s also power-efficient. You get a pure Android device, without any of the distractions. Security updates are frequent, so you get a certain peace of mind too.
The Nokia 7.2 isn’t just a feature and performance wonder, it’s also got an all-new unique design and build to boast. Nokia claims its new polymer composite is stronger than the older phone’s materials, which also makes the 7.2 light for its size. To strengthen it further, the chassis is wrapped in a premium metal body. The Nokia 7.2 will be on sale soon, in three attractive colour variants – Charcoal, Cyan Green and Ice.
We’re excited every time there’s a smartphone that offers great value for money. The Nokia 7.2 fits that mould perfectly. It’s the balance of features and performance that make it a great smartphone to own, one that will last its time. If you’ve been waiting to upgrade, then you’ll want to check it out at your closest Reliance Digital store.
