Things can be expensive, and they can also be dear. Not everything can be counted by its alue, and it’s always painful when we lose something. These could be bags at the airport, keys at a restaurant. Many of us have pets and we fear it might get lost. Apple is known for making smartphones, and laptops and PCs, but not product tracking and yet, they have a novel solution to the problem of losing things, AirTags.

The solution is simple. AirTags can be slipped into your purse, or attached to a hoop of a suitcase, a cycle, or some kind on a collar, or a keychain and it just sits there unsuspecting, till the day you lose it. If you do lose your valuable item, with the AirTag attached to it, you can use the ‘Find My’ app on your iPhone to find it. It’s the kind of app that was used to find your iPhone if you ever lost it. Now a similar technology can help you find pretty much any object. The tags can be named neatly too, into human-friendly words like ‘My bag’, ‘My keys’, ‘My ID card’, ‘My cycle’.
You can also know exactly where they are at any point in time. The AirTags aren’t just for when you lose them outdoors, you can pinpoint them to metres, and the app on the phone will tell you exactly in which direction to find it, when you’re nearby. There is also a small speaker onboard the AirTag, so it can even make a sound to tell you where it is. The app and your phone behave like a radar, helping you find the tag.

The technology is quite simple. the AirTag uses Bluetooth that is secured but can be picked up by devices. It is entirely secured and encrypted so you don’t need to worry about others finding your products with their phones. The data is linked and stored to your iCloud account, so it’s convenient and safe.
Setting it up is easy too. Simple tap the AirTag with your iPhone or iPad. Choose a meaningful name, and that’s it. The technology even works with the Apple Watch, so you can receive notifications to your wrist. The pairing and detection work with the help of NFC (Near-field communication).

Apple has taken convenience to the next level. The Find my app also works with Siri, so you can use voice commands to find the object for you. For example, ‘Hey Siri, find my wallet’ will help you find your wallet, at home, or anywhere in the world. This can be useful in so many scenarios. You could have parked your cycle or car at some place in a crowded parking lot, but you can’t remember where. You can now use Siri to find it.

Being part of the Apple ecosystem has its benefits. You don’t really need to be the one to find your lost item. There are thousands and millions of iPhone and iPad users that can come to your help. While they move about the spaces that you have been in and may have lost your item, the sensors on the iPhones and iPads used by others can be used to find your device. This is great, if you’ve misplaced your bag at the airport, or the gym or any place that has people moving about.

There is a Lost Mode that can be enabled on the AirTag. It’s only then that the device is detected on the Apple network, that you get notified. You can even share your contact details that can be accessed by the person who found your product, by just tapping their NFC-capable phone with the AirTag.
Also, you can be notified if someone slips in their AirTag in your luggage. The technology will notify that you’re carrying an AirTag that isn’t yours. At the same time, it’s smart enough to not alert your if you’re travelling with a friend or family member who has an AirTag on them. The technology works, if the AirTag is separated from the user, and is in motion with you.
The Apple AirTag is powered by a CR2032 battery that can be replaced by the user when it loses charge. These are extremely inexpensive and easily available at practically any stationary. What’s more, they last not weeks or month, but more than a year, so you won’t need to worry about getting new batteries all the time. The AirTags are even waterproof, so you won’t have to worry about them getting wet and dirty.

What’s more, the Apple AirTags are beautifully designed and there are options for loops that come all kinds of colours and designs, suited for your own style and product.

The Apple AirTags aren’t the only products to be launched at the recent Apple event. Apple also announced their new Apple iPad Pro and a new iMac running their own M1 silicon. If you want to know more about them and other upcoming technologies, keep reading RelianceDigital.in.
