But how can someone can offer an Android TV at such an insanely low price? We too thought this is impossible, so we decided to spend some time with the TCL 32S6500S to find out just how good it is.
The first thing that struck us when we unboxed the TV was its screen size. Now, for a person going from a CRT to a flat screen TV, the 32-inch screen size is definitely a huge upgrade. The picture quality, the way you experience even TV channels is going to improve drastically. In fact, just replacing the large clunky CRT with this TV makes your room appear a lot livelier. The TCL 32S6500S has minimal bezels just like most other TVs in this range, but it has a neat little mesh design at the bottom which is better than having a plain look. The TV is nicely built, so it has no loose ends or squeaky sounds. The TV comes with a table stand, so setting it up is easy. You can even wall mount this TV as a free wall mount bracket is provided, and TCL even offers free installation*.
The obvious beauty of the TCL 32S6500S is the way it operates. The TV runs Android TV (Oreo) and navigating through menus is as simple as using an Android smartphone. Few tabs means that the user interface is uncluttered, and navigating through menus is easy. We experienced no lag or stuttering. Wait! Did we mention that the TCL 32S6500S also comes with a built-in Chromecast feature? This TV can do everything that a Chromecast does but without the additional expense or without having to plug a dongle at the back of the TV. This means, you can stream a whole lot of premium quality audio and video content using apps such as Spotify, Google Play Music, Netflix and more. In fact, it also has a bunch of Indian streaming apps such as ZEE5, Voot, ALTBalaji and Eros Now.
We can accessed these features by pressing the home button on the remote control. The TCL T-cast app allows you to do screen mirroring as well. What’s more? You can also control this TV using Google Home devices! Now that’s what we call personalising technology.
Speaking more of personalising, you can download all your favourite apps on the TCL 32S6500S from the Google Play Store. It has 8GB of internal storage with is good for any Smart TV. We downloaded Google Drive, which is one of our favourites to store photos and documents. Browsing Microsoft Word or PDFs files on a TV may feel weird at first, but it looks good on a 32-inch screen. You can even connect a mouse and a keyboard using the USB ports to browse and edit documents on the TCL 326500S TV itself.
Any gamers reading this? You can download the Steam Link app to stream your favourite games from your PC or laptop to this TV. But remember, Steam recommends using a wired LAN connection to get the best performance. We were surprised even more, when we found Asphalt 8 Airborne on the TCL 32S6500S. Yes! A good racing game that actually runs on a TV! The game is well optimised for TVs and in fact there are a bunch of other games you should try such as Rush Rally 3, Shark Attack but remember, you’ll need a controller to play these.
The most fun you will have using the TCL 32S6500S is with Google Assistant. Having Google Assistant means lesser use of the remote control and more use of voice commands to control the TV. You can speak to Google Assistant to find something to watch or listen using voice commands such as “play Christopher Nolan movies” or “play Bollywood music” and so on. You can even command the TV to open your favourite apps or ask it for the local weather. Google Assistant also syncs calendars, contacts and even reminds you about tasks you might forget while watching your favourite movie.
The TCL 32S6500S has a 32-inch IPS LED panel, so the picture quality is pretty good and you even get great viewing angles. The TV also has a HDR feature which is surprising as it just costs Rs. 12,990! The TCL 32S6500S is quite well equipped on the connectivity front too. It has two HDMI ports, so we connected our set-top-box and a Sony PlayStation 4 simultaneously. The two USB ports on it let you connect peripherals like a mouse and keyboard, so you can use the TV as a PC.
We even played some HD movies on the TV using USB drives. The built-in file explorer supports popular video formats such as MP4, MKV, AVI and more. The TV has two 10W speakers which are decent for a medium-sized living room, however if you need more power and bass, you should consider a sound bar which cost as low as Rs. 3,990.
If you thought Rs. 13,000 could only get you a TV, then the TCL 32S6500S will prove you wrong. It has all the bells and whistles starting with a great design, good picture quality and most modern-day connectivity ports. In fact, for just Rs. 12,990 you literally get an Android certified TV which makes the TCL 32S6500S an exceptional product. The built-in Chromecast, the Google Play Store and Google Assistant really make a huge difference in the way you use your TV. TCL is also offering 3 years of warranty on this TV, which even popular brands don’t offer.
