You may have heard of LG ThinQ at some point. It might have been during your last visit to an electronics store or while searching the web to buy a new smartphone, TV or home appliances, possibly a LG-branded one. LG has a line of smart devices featuring their popular ThinQ technology, that uses artificial intelligence to let you control devices using no more than your voice. What exactly is LG ThinQ and how does it work? Let’s find out.

What is LG ThinQ?

LG ThinQ was introduced at CES 2018. It uses the Natural Language Processing (NLP) engine, which analyzes human languages and converts them into a semantic language. This helps the machine understand what you say. In 2019, LG Electronics introduced support for voice commands across a range of languages. You can control compatible smart home devices using just your voice and it even works offline. It supports 800+ voice commands and the best part is that it works with devices supporting Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

LG AI TVs with content tailored for you

LG TVs bring in goodies with AI ThinQ. Say you want to watch your favorite program or movie featuring your favorite actor – all it takes is a simple command. With LG AI ThinQ and Google assistant built-in, you can control your TV with your voice using LG’s Magic remote. You can browse through TV channels, get weather information, check out cricket scores without having to change the channel or browse the content catalogue. You can operate your TV using just your voice. LG AI ThinQ TVs closely follow your viewing habits and recommend movies and TV programs based on your age and interest.

In 2019, LG’s unique AI ThinQ technology was upgraded to analyze the content playing on the TV and so, it now recognizes ambient lighting. This means, your TV can detect the room lighting and it can change its screen brightness to give you the best viewing experience.

LG AI Speakers can act as your personal assistants

Like LG AI TVs, you can ask your LG AI speakers to play music for you. Voice-enabled LG speakers such as the XBOOM AI ThinQ can be controlled with your voice. You can even ask the speaker to read the news for you or switch on the air conditioner. In some cases, LG’s AI speakers can also remind you of important meetings, project deadlines and birthdays.

LG smart devices to make your home smart

LG ThinQ helps you make your home smart. You can now be a multitasking master by remotely controlling, managing and scheduling a whole range of smart LG devices with your voice or by a single button press. The LG ThinQ app lets you connect everything. You can adjust the living room temperature by monitoring your LG smart air conditioner, listen to recommended recipes on your smart speaker, preheat the oven or turn on the dishwasher. This app also lets you control robot vacuum cleaners at your home, by setting their daily cleaning schedules and timers. This smart tech helps to quickly take care of your daily chores, so that you get more time to spend on what you like.

Watch, Listen and Share with HomeKit and AirPlay 2

Smart LG TVs can share screens and display content from phones, tablets, laptops and PCs. There are multiple ways to connect your devices to LG TVs. A year back, LG rolled out support for Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit, on its 2019 AI TV models. AirPlay is Apple’s screen sharing technology. HomeKit lets users control their smart home devices with the Home app or using Siri. With AirPlay 2, you can share movies, TV shows, photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad and Mac to LG AI TVs. You can even choose to play music on the TV and other AirPlay 2 compatible speakers simultaneously.
