LG CX OLED TV – Impressive is an understatement

OLED technology typically means absolute perfection. The organic pixels on OLED panels emit their own light allowing them to completely turn off pixels, that result in true blacks and rich picture quality. The CX OLED TVs are available in three screen sizes, and they run a resolution of 3840 x 2160. The entry-level model (OLED55CX) has a 55-inch screen while the mid-range variant (OLED65CX) sports a slightly bigger 65-inch screen. The top-of-the-line model (OLED77CX) has a mammoth 77-inch screen. All models use LG’s Self-Lit Pixels OLED technology to produce rich and vibrant colours. LG says the TVs bring out better details in shadows and dark tones that no other OLED TVs can match. This will allow for a more cinematic content viewing experience.

LG has also introduced a Filmmaker mode with these CX series TV. The mode turns off the TV’s motion smoothing and image sharpening effects to preserve original aspect ratios, colours, and frame rates for a more natural-looking picture. There is also an all-new Dolby Vision IQ feature that combines the HDR picture information and optimises the picture quality in real-time with the TV’s in-built light sensor. LG says this feature helps to achieve a consistent picture quality. LG’s OLED Motion Pro reduces blur and flicker. This will enhance the viewing experience, especially while watching high-paced action films and sports.

The LG CX TV is one of the first OLED TVs to feature NVIDIA’s G-Sync. This means you can connect your NVIDIA graphics card laptop or PC to the TV for a smooth gaming experience. The refresh rate on the TV is synchronized with the graphics card o your laptop or PC. The TV supports 4K gaming at 120Hz refresh rates, making it perfect for new-generation consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S. Support for 1ms latency and HDR gaming make the LG CX ideal for gamers, as they can enjoy 4K gaming titles on the large screen, without noticing any delay.

The LG CX TV boasts an incredibly thin design. Its metal frame is as thin as a pencil giving the TV a top-notch premium look. The TV gets slightly broader towards its bottom, but it is still significantly slimmer than most LED TVs. The TV’s wedge-shaped stand promises stability on flat surfaces, and there’s also a plastic cover on it for clean wire management. LG also bundles a wall-mounting kit, so you don’t need to purchase additional accessories. The TV can be controlled using LG’s Magic Remote. It has a spinning wheel at the centre to quickly navigate through menus and settings.

The LG CX TV has plentiful of ports despite its sleek and slim design. There are four HDMI 2.1 ports, all capable of handling 4K resolutions up to 120Hz with HDR 10 support. One of the HDMI ports also supports the ARC feature so the TV can output audio from gaming consoles or a 4K Blu-ray player to a soundbar and a home theatre system. The TV has three USB 2.0 ports for connecting storage devices, and LG also bundles a composite video adapter dongle for connecting older video equipment. The device uses Wi-Fi 802.11ac for wireless internet connectivity, and there is also a LAN port for wired connectivity.

The CX TV runs on runs on LG’s Alpha a9 Gen 3 processor that promises major performance improvements. LG says the new CPU uses deep-learning algorithms to detect the kind of movie, and to enhance picture quality accordingly. The processor also improves the boot time, and it helps run most apps smoothly. The TV uses LG’s WebOS interface, well-known for its simplified user experience. The TV has popular streaming apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Hotstar with regional content streaming apps such as ALTBalaji, Voot, and ZEE5. LG has also added an Apple TV+ app, which was missing on the older LG C9 TV.

The LG CX TV also comes with an updated Home Hub feature that lets you control smart home devices straight from the TV. There is also support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This means you can open apps, change TV settings and do a lot more, using voice commands. You can also control the TV using the LG ThinQ app.

Most slim OLED TVs lack good audio quality, but this isn’t the case with the new LG CX TV. It comes with 40W speakers that promise loud and clear audio output.
