A touchscreen laptop typically costs more than Rs. 80,000 but without the bells and whistles. Most models don’t include a touch pen, and adding one includes an additional price. Luckily, the new Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 has everything you need. The Flex 5 appears to be way more affordable than its competition, it comes with Lenovo’s Active Pen and it also packs the powerful hardware need to run professional media creation tools. Lenovo says the device perfectly balances features and performance for media creators and the everyday user.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 has a 14-inch full HD display running a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It is a touchscreen, convertible laptop that can fold on to itself. You can use it as a laptop, a tablet or something in between. The bundled Lenovo Active Pen offers 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity and palm rejection. You get accuracy while using software such as Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and AutoCAD, but without your palms interfering. You can rest your hand on the screen like you while working with paper. The Flex 5’s display runs an IPS panel, so accurate colours are inherently present. The screen also achieves 250 nits of brightness, making it legible, both indoors and outdoors. The screen bezels are minimal, so the laptop looks premium and the media experience is more immersive.

Lenovo offers the freedom to choose between Intel or AMD processors. The Intel variant runs the 11th generation Core i7-1165G7 CPU that offers turbo speeds up to 4.2GHz. There is also a more affordable variant running a modest Intel Core i3-1115G4 processor. The i7 model comes with a 512GGB SSD, while the i3 model runs a 256GB SSD with a 1TB of hard drive. Both come with 8GB of RAM, so you can multitask and switch between apps effortlessly.

The Flex 5 with AMD’s Ryzen 7 5700U CPU is the one you should look at. The 7nm processor has the absolute raw power to run high-end software effortlessly. The processor has 8-cores and 16 threads that significantly speed up media rendering and post-production tasks. There’s 512GB of SSD coupled with 16GB of RAM. The laptop comes with AMD Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics solution which is good enough to handle most photo and video editing tools. It will also let you play older gaming titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, League of Legends, and Rocket League.

The Flex 5 has a dual-heat pipe and a large fan thermal module to keep its internals cool. The device offers three thermal profiles to choose from – Battery Saving, Intelligent Cooling and Extreme performance. Lenovo says turning on the Extreme performance unleashes all the CPU power, so you can work, edit and work on the largest projects without any compromise.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 has a smaller footprint than last year’s model. It weighs about 1.4kg and its 14mm in thickness, so using it as a tablet isn’t going to feel like a task. The device has a high-quality plastic chassis for durability. The base has a matte finish with rubberized surfaces for a better grip. The display lid uses aluminium in contrast to the plastic base to further enhance the Flex 5’s premium looks. There is an imprinted Lenovo logo at the right corner to add a sense of professionalism like the one seen on Lenovo’s ThinkBook series laptops. The laptop has an HD camera with a physical shutter cover, and there is also a dedicated fingerprint reader for unlocking the device.

The Flex 5 has all the necessary ports despite its slim form factor. It comes with a USB Type-C Gen 3.1 port for high data transfer speeds. It can also be used for charging the device. There are also two USB-A ports for connecting pen drives and peripherals like an external mouse, keyboard or printer. The device also has an SD card reader, so importing photos from a camera is no longer a hindrance. There is an HDMI port for connecting the laptop to an external display. The laptop ships with the modern Wi-Fi 6 standard for wireless connectivity.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 has a spacious keyboard with enough wrist-rest area around. The keys provide 1.4mm of travel, and their large size makes typing easy and comfortable. The laptop’s trackpad is also spacious, so you can easily glide your fingers on it, and use multitasking gestures. The laptop runs Windows 10 Home and it comes with a free lifetime Microsoft Office Home and Office 2019 subscription. It also has a pre-installed Lenovo Vantage app for controlling power profiles, keyboard customisation options, system updates, battery settings, and more.

The Flex 5 also promises a solid battery life. It houses a 52Wh battery, which is standard for a 14-inch laptop these days. Lenovo claims it can deliver 9 to 10 hours of battery, and it ships with a 65W charge that fully charges the device from 0 to 100 in under 2 hours.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 is a great device for creators and everyday users. Its convertible form factor offers more versatility, and powerful hardware ensures you never lack performance. It’s also within everyone’s reach with prices for the entry-level model starting at Rs. 52,990.
