Google Assistant is now available in over 90 countries, helping more than 500 million people every month. Most smartphones, smart speakers, and TVs have Google Assistant built into them, and it is slowly becoming a part of our daily routine. Google Assistant can be activated using the wake words, ‘Hey Google’ or ‘Ok Google’.  There are many ways we do repeatedly, that can be automated using Google Assistant. Some of us might be using it for simple tasks, but there is a lot more you can do it with it.

Plan your day

You can now plan your day by asking Google Assistant to read out your daily routine. Saying “Hey Google, good morning” for example, turns on any smart lights you might have. It will also play music, and give you the weather updates. All you need to do is select some default routines or create custom ones by saying “Hey Google, open Assistant settings”. You can also set alarms and reminders to pay electricity or credit card bills. Google Assistant will then send you notifications for scheduled meetings, messages and emails.

Find nearby places and local information

There is a lot to remember when you are traveling, from your flight timings, flight tickets to hotel booking information. Google Assistant can remember everything and sets reminders to notify you on the day of your journey or whenever you ask it.

You can also rely on Google Assistant to find nearby petrol pumps, ATMs, hotels, and other places of interest. Just say “Ok Google, find restaurant or petrol pump nearby”. You can also get directions, find alternate routes, get traffic information, or even request a ride with your voice. Google Assistant can also find restaurants delivering food to your home. Just say “Hey Google, find restaurants that deliver food to my place.”

Click selfies

Google Assistant lets you control your phone’s camera, hands-free. You can quickly capture a group photo by saying “Hey Google, take a selfie.” Google Assistant will open your phone’s front-facing camera and click selfies by setting a timer.

Connect to smart home devices

Google Assistant is available on more than a billion devices. The Google Home app lets you control multiple devices such as speakers, home theatres, soundbars, smart air purifiers, smart refrigerators, and smart vacuum cleaners from one place. Setting up devices is simple and easy. You can ask the Assistant to turn on the lights, control the TV volume, or play music on the speaker.

Not only devices, Google Assistant is also integrated into Android Auto and it can help while driving. For example, you can say “Hey Google, show the nearest route” or “Hey Google, play jazz music.”. All you need to do is connect your smartphone to your car or use the Android Auto app on your phone while you’re driving.

Send photos, videos, and audio messages

Google Assistant can make phone calls or text your friends and family without ever touching the screen. You can even send audio messages from devices running Android and iOS. For example, say “Hey Google, send an audio message to mom, saying I’m reaching home by 7 pm.”

You can even share photos and videos with your friends using simple voice commands. Say “Hey Google, show me photos or videos from last weekend”, then select the photos and ask Google Assistant to share it with your close contacts.

Ask Google Assistant to entertain you

Google Assistant is used a lot while playing music. It is easy to control music, listen to podcasts or audiobooks without picking up the phone. Just say “Hey Google, play music or play podcasts” and you’ll find a mix of recommended music and podcasts.

Google Assistant can tell you the news and jokes too. Simply say “Hey Google, show news” or say “Ok Google, tell me a joke” That’s not all. With Google Assistant, the browser can read news and web articles out loud. The text-to-speech translation feature works like magic and most importantly, it sounds natural. Google’s new voice models can read text by incorporating sound length, pitch, and by putting stress on certain words.

Most smart speakers and smart displays support Google Assistant to keep your family connected, and at the same time help organize households. Anyone at home can view food recipes, learn cooking, and more. The Google Assistant also lets you create digital shopping lists or leave sticky notes for other members at home by saying “Hey Google, leave a note that says I’ve cooked dinner.”.
