HP’s Omen series laptops have been around for a while now, and they are known for their performance. The Omen series took their design inspiration from fighter jets, and they looked futuristic with their edgy designs. HP has recently updated the Omen series to give them a more sophisticated look. The brand has done this to appeal to non-gamers since they too choose gaming laptops for their sheer firepower.

The HP Omen 15 looks completely different from its predecessor. It now has a much simpler design, but it still manages to look stealthy in its Shadow Black attire. The device uses an all-metal chassis, unlike last year’s plastic body. HP claims, the new chassis provides solid structural rigidity while giving it a premium look. The laptop’s matte finish design largely helps keep fingerprints away. It weighs 2.36 kg, so it is slightly heavier than its predecessor but it’s compact due to its edge-less screen design, which means it can be easily carried around in a rucksack or a briefcase.

The HP Omen 15 now comes with wider and stronger hinges to prevent wobble. The laptop sports a 720p web camera, that should be good enough for video calls. It also features HP’s Tempest Cooling technology which uses a three-sided venting. HP claims this design is engineered to maximize performance and keep the laptop’s temperatures under control.

The HP Omen 15 comes with a 15.6-inch full HD display, running a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080. The display uses a WLED panel, with 100 per cent sRGB support. This means, the display renders accurate colours which is beneficial while using photo and video editing tools. The HP Omen features a 144Hz refresh rate screen to make graphics rendition smoother. A screen with higher refresh also makes scrolling through images, web pages smoother. The display also supports NVIDIA G-Sync, to reduce input lag and screen tearing issues. The HP Omen’s display is nearly edgeless, with its 80 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

The HP Omen 15 is available in two configurations. The entry-spec variant (HP-ek0025TX) comes with Intel’s Core i5-10300H processor, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The higher-end model (Hp-ek0019TX) runs a more powerful Intel Core i7-10750H processor, and 16GB of RAM along with 1TB of SSD storage. The entry-spec variant runs the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card, while the higher-end model comes with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics card. Both graphics cards are quite similar in performance. Both laptops should handle AAA games such as GTA V, Battlefield V, and Fortnite at full HD settings. These graphic solutions can also handle media creation tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Autodesk Maya.

The HP Omen 2020 comes with a full-size RGB backlit keyboard, that gives the laptop its gaming character. HP lets you customise RGB lighting to your liking using HP’s Command Center app. The keyboard has a spacious layout, and the keys come with 1.5mm of travel. The Omen 15’s trackpad is also bigger than its predecessor, which means you can effortlessly scroll through images, web pages and large spreadsheets. The trackpad also supports Windows 10 Precision drivers, that easily lets you switch between apps.

The HP Omen 15 comes with all the connectivity ports you would expect from a gaming laptop. The laptop comes with two USB 3.1 ports along with a standard USB 2.0 port. The device also houses a SD card reader and a 3.5mm auxiliary jack for connecting headphones. The device also has a Type-C port that lets you connect multiple 4K monitors. The laptop also has a HDMI port for connecting an external monitor or projector. The HP Omen 15 comes with Wi-Fi 6, which is the newest wireless network standard for laptops and smartphones. It should enable you to transfer data much faster over the network, and also faster internet speeds if your internet provider offers it. The laptop also has RJ45 Ethernet port, for stable, low-latency gaming. The device also comes with Bluetooth 5.0 for connecting peripherals.

The HP Omen 15 comes with two front-facing Bang & Olufsen speakers. HP claims, the front-facing design doesn’t muffle the sound, and it helps deliver loud and clear audio. The laptop comes with a 3-cell, 52.5 Wh lithium-ion battery. HP also bundles a 150W Smart AC power adaptor that can charge the battery from 0 to 50 per cent in 45 minutes. The HP Omen 15 is a fantastic gaming laptop with some impressive hardware. The laptop includes all the essential gaming features, such as a high refresh rate screen, NVIDIA G-Sync and an efficient cooling system. With prices starting from Rs. 84,999, the HP Omen 15 is a solid laptop that can easily handle both gaming and work needs.
