Spotify had long announced that they were going to launch their music streaming service in India, sometime in 2019. It’s finally happened and users can subscribe to the service by downloading the app from Android and Apple app stores, or by visiting the web site Spotify.com. There are a lot of good reasons for the hype surrounding it. Spotify has a large collection of music, a solid recommendations engine, regional music and great inter-connectivity between devices. The premium account has added benefits of higher quality audio and this has been launched at a price of Rs. 119 a month, with schemes available for three, six and 12 months. However, if you are a student, you can get the same at a 50 per cent discounted price, which works out to just Rs. 59 a month. Simply follow these steps to avail this offer.
Create your Spotify account and login
Start by creating your ID through the app or web site. If you have a Facebook account, you can use it to login or else, you can choose to create a new Spotify account. Provide your email address and password, then proceed. You’ll be asked to choose music that you like and language preferences. This will be used to help you discover new music. Once you complete the initial steps, Spotify will find music for you and you’ll be displayed the home screen where you can find a list of popular and trending music.
Joining Spotify Premium
The Premium account comes with a bunch of benefits. You can download music for offline listening, listen to music without ads, and even play music on multiple devices. The audio quality is higher as well. To join, tap on ‘Join Premium’ or tap on the menu button on the right-top, then choose ‘Join Premium’.
Choose Spotify Premium for Students
Scroll down to the Student section of the page. Tap on ‘Learn more’, then scroll down further till you see the ‘Get Premium’ button. This is where you opt for the plan.
Provide identification details
You should be redirected to the page where you are asked to unlock your student discount. You need to provide some ID proof as part of subscribing as a student. This is done through a verification service called SheerID. Tap on Next, and you will need to enter your name, e-mail address and country. You will also need to enter the name of your college or university. Next, you may need to upload three documents as proof. The details are present on that screen. Spotify states that these can be class schedule, transcript, registration or tuition receipt, or a letter of enrollment. Upload them as JPG, PNG, PDF, GIF or RTF. Then proceed to completing the payment.
Complete the payment
Once this is done, you can proceed with the payment. This can be done using a credit card, UPI transaction or PayTM. Once this is done, you can explore the world of Spotify as a premium service.
