Don’t need a mobile case or screenguard? Think again…

You’ve bought yourself a brand-new phone and it looks pristine. It’s shiny, squeaky, it’s got a nice solid glass screen and a brushed metal finish at the back. All of this is good but there are likely to be fears lurking at the back of your mind – the fear of scratching your phone. These are valid fears, and a mobile case, a cover, even a tamper glass is an absolute must, no matter how cheap or expensive your device. Some of us believe we’re careful enough to avoid damaging our phones, but it simply isn’t possible.

We can try to be careful, for a few days and weeks, but eventually we’re going to have the unexpected incident and end up with a dented phone, a scratched screen, maybe worse. What’s the things that could happen? Surely, many of us can relate to these.

Many of us travel by bus or train, and there is no avoiding the rush getting in. The experience of rushing in is nerve-wracking as it is but add the worry of a brand-new phone sitting in your shirt or pant pocket, the fears are magnified. It happens so often, people bump their leg into a support rod or the edge of the door. Sometimes, the phone escapes it but at times, you’ll find a scratch on it, sometimes a dent on the side of the phone. These incident could easily be avoided with practically any mobile case. These accidental bumps don’t always happen when you’re travelling, they could happen at home or at work. You may be walking between cubicles and you ram into the edge of a desk and your phone takes the impact.

More often than not, we’ll drop our phone. It’ll be in the kitchen or walking in the rain. Sometimes, it’ll be the earphones cable tugging the phone off the edge of the desk. We have all seen this, someone running and having the phone fall to the ground with the battery and back cover pops open. There are so many instances where the phone is kept on the edge of the bed or sofa, and it falls off it. We’ll rush to check if everything’s working fine. We’ll turn on the screen, look for any dents, even check if the camera is working fine. Most phones can survive small drops if they have a mobile case and a screenguard installed. Some mobile cases can even help phones survive larger drops and reduce the damage.

This happens all the time, and it’s one the reasons for the fine scratches on your phone’s screen. The manufacturer might claim of a scratch-resistant glass but there is no escaping the fine scratches your keys make on the screen. We mindlessly dump our phones into pockets with keys and coins. Over minutes, sometimes hours, our screens and the sharp metal objects will scrub each other leaving a messy display. No amount of cleaning and wiping is going to remove these scratches. A tamper glass or any screenguard will prevent your smartphone from undergoing this ordeal.

Sometimes, simple things like spillage of water or coffee can seep into the phone and destroy the screen. A case and screenguard won’t eliminate the risk but reduce it. There are other benefits too. A good case will let you keep your phone’s screen on a flat surface without it actually making contact with the surface. Newer phones come with camera bumps at the back. Left without a case, the camera lens can get scratched if you leave it on a hard surface. A mobile case ensures there is no contact.

We’ve only spoken of the things that your phone can face. Most of us are going to spend a lot of our money on a smartphone. At the very least, we want it to last a year or two without any major drama. The chances of these things happening is very high. A smashed screen can cost several thousands to replace at the very least. The cost of a decent case and a screenguard can be as low as 5 per cent of the cost of the phone, sometimes even less for more expensive phones. If you’ve been living on the edge, now is a good time to change that habit. There are plenty of good cases that suit your preference and needs, and the good news is that they’re affordable too. We can help you choose one. Looking to buy one, head over to our mobile cases catalogue and our designer cases, even drop by your closest Reliance Digital store.
