The Dell XPS 13 has been one of the popular Ultrabooks of the past few years. The laptop is known for its ultra-portable design and powerful hardware. This year, Dell has managed to refine the new XPS 13 to near-perfection. The new device sports a futuristic design, a slightly larger display and bezels that are even narrower than its predecessor. Equipped with Intel’s 10th generation processor, the new XPS 13 promises to be the perfect ultra-portable laptop.

The Dell XPS 13 9300 is one of the lightest and slimmest laptops around. The device is extremely compact, and it weighs 1.2 kg, making it easy to carry around. The laptop is made using a CNC-sculpted aluminium frame, that ensures a precision design, along with high build quality. The device is available in two colours – Platinum Silver with a carbon-fibre palm rest, and Frost White with an Alpine White composite-fibre palm rest. The palm rest also has a stain-resistant coating to prevent yellowing and discolouration. Dell claims the outer shell of the laptop has been anodised twice to prevent scratches.

Dell’s thermal design ensures the laptop stays cool despite its thin form factor. It comes with dual-heat vents along with GORE Thermal Insulation that uses silica aerogels to dissipate heat. Dell claims this is the same material used in spacecrafts and it helps to keep the laptop’s temperature low even after prolonged usage. The Dell XPS 13’s screen features Corning Gorilla Glass 6, which is impact as well as scratch-resistant. The laptop comes with an HD webcam for video calls and it also has IR sensors that work with the Windows Hello feature to unlock the device. The device’s power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner.

The new Dell XPS 9300 has a 13-inch screen. The entry-level variant has an FHD+, non-touch display, running a 1920 x 1200 screen resolution. The high-end variant comes with a touch-enabled 4K (3840 x 2400) display. The screen has narrow bezels, delivering a 91.5 per cent, screen-to-body ratio. The display also supports the sRGB standard, which means it renders extremely accurate colours. This makes XPS 13’s display great for using image and video editing tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro. The display’s 500 nits brightness provides clarity in bright-lit rooms and the screen also has an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare.

The Dell XPS 13 9300 is available in two configurations. The entry-spec model runs Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor, with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. The higher-end model runs a more powerful Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor, and 16GB of RAM along with 1TB of SSD storage. The device has Intel Iris Plus integrated graphics which handles low-end graphic processing tasks such as watching movies and editing videos. This graphic solution might not be great for gaming, but it can still handle less-demanding titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.

The Dell XPS 13 sports an edge-to-edge backlit keyboard. Dell claims the keys have been made 9 per cent bigger than the previous XPS to enhance the typing experience. The device has a large trackpad along with Microsoft’s Precision Touch technology. This means, you can easily scroll through spreadsheets, webpages and use finger gestures to open and switch between apps. The Dell XPS 13 sports Wi-Fi 6 for stable internet connectivity and Bluetooth 5.1 for connecting a wireless keyboard, mouse and other wireless peripherals. The laptop has two USB Type-C ports to charge the device and connect external 4K monitors. The device also has a microSD card slot and an auxiliary port to connect wired headphones. The laptop doesn’t have a USB port due to its ultra-slim design, but Dell bundles a USB Type-C to USB-A adaptor that lets you connect external drives.

Dell has ensured the XPS 13 offers a great entertainment experience. The laptop features 2.5W Waves MaxxAudio speakers that claim to deliver clear and crisp sound. The device has a 52Wh battery and Dell claims, the laptop can deliver up to 8 hours of battery life. Dell also bundles a 45W fast charger, that should charge the laptop quickly. The Dell XPS 13 9300 is one of the most premium ultra-premium laptops of 2020. The laptop makes a style statement with its elegant design, and the latest hardware ensures you get enough performance for all your computing needs.
