Bose SoundLink Flex – Finally, a premium sounding outdoor speaker

The variety of portable, outdoor speakers available these days can be confusing. Most start from as low as Rs. 5,000, and some decent-sounding ones cost close to Rs. 10,000. Most models in this range get you decent features like water-resistance and if you are lucky, app support. However, the most essential feature often missed out on is premium audio quality.

For portability, most speaker manufacturers equip their outdoor speakers with smaller drivers that compromise on performance. That’s where the Bose SoundLink Flex steps in. Bose is well-known for its high-end audio devices, and now it brings all its high-tier characteristics to its latest outdoor speaker. The SoundLink Flex also looks premium without losing marks on durability. Here’s how it stands against its competitors and why you should choose one.

A lot of outdoor speakers claim portability, but sometimes their unusual shapes don’t exactly make them portable. Many models also come with unnecessary RGB lighting taking away the premium looks. The Bose SoundLink flex is different. It’s a subtle-looking outdoor speaker, perfect for outdoor and indoor usage. It has a simple design with curved edges, so you can easily fit it in a backpack. The speaker comes with a fabric loop on the right side, so you can attach it to a backpack, bicycle handle or jacket while moving around.

The Bose SoundLink Flex comes with an IP67 rating which makes it water-resistant. Bose says the speaker has a floating design, which prevents it from sinking. This means you use the speaker while boating in a lake without worrying about losing it. The device comes in Smoke White, Black and Stone Blue colours. Its chassis is covered with a soft-touch silicone material, while its grill uses metal for better durability.

The speaker supports Bose’s PositionIQ feature that detects orientation and adjusts the EQ accordingly. So no matter how you place the speaker or hang it, it sounds balanced.

The Bose SoundLink Flex comes with a bunch of on-board controls on the top of the speaker. The multi-function button at the centre plays/pauses the music and skips tracks. You can also long-press this button to summon the voice assistant on your smartphone. The speaker also has volume buttons and a Bluetooth button for pairing devices.

The Bose SoundLink Flex has a bunch of Bose’s premium hardware. Bose says the speaker comes with a custom-designed transducer that deliver a natural-sounding audio experience. There is also a pair of passive radiators for bass. The speaker’s digital signal processing (DSP) works along with Bose’s custom algorithms for high-quality sound.

The speaker supports Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity for connecting to your phone, tablet, or laptop. It offers up to 9m of range and remembers up to eight recently connected devices. It also supports Bluetooth multipoint features, so you can seamlessly switch audio between two source devices. The SoundLink Flex speaker also comes with an in-built microphone so you can take calls without touching your phone.

One of the biggest strengths of the SoundLink Flex is its compatibility with the Bose Connect app. Available for both, Android and iOS devices, the app gives quick access to the key features of the speaker like auto-off timer, volume controls and battery readings. You can also use the app to customise your speaker’s name. During the initial setup, the app also gives you a short product tour of the SoundLink Flex that comes in handy to understand features and settings. Within the app, you can also enable the Party Mode that allows two compatible Bose Bluetooth speakers to connect and play the same content.

The Bose SoundLink Flex promises up to 12 hours of battery life on a full charge. The speaker has a Type-C port on its left for charging. Since it’s a Type-C port, you can charge the Flex with your smartphone’s charger or a powerbank.

If you are looking for a premium-sounding outdoor speaker, the Bose SoundLink Flex fits the bill perfectly. The speaker is more subtle than most outdoor speakers out there, which means you can even use it comfortably at your home or office. Additional features like the excellent app support and solid battery life give the Bose SoundLink Flex an edge over its competition. The speaker is priced at Rs. 15,990 *, and you can order it from www.reliacnedigital.in. For experiencing its superior audio quality, feel free to visit your nearest Reliance Digital store.
