Asus TUF series laptops rarely need an introduction. They were aimed at a budget audience who just wanted to get best for their money. However, TUF laptops had some drawbacks. Their bulky chassis which packed the high-end components made carrying them around difficult. Luckily, Asus is now slimming down things with the all-new TUF Dash F15. The new laptops take a new design approach without compromising on components.
Available in Moonlight White and a more subtle Eclipse Gray colour, the Asus Dash F15 has a truly striking design. The laptop has a large TUF typography on its display lid that adds to its gaming character. This laptop is just 20.3mm thick and weighs nearly 2kg makes it thin and a somewhat light gaming laptop. Both the keyboard deck and the lid are made of aluminium, so it doesn’t lose rigidity in exchange for portability. Asus says the TUF Dash F15 is now much more travel-friendly, and it also has military-grade MIL-STD-810H certification. This means the laptop should easily take on minor bumps.
The Asus Dash F15 doesn’t sacrifice ports in its quest for sleekness. The left equips an Ethernet jack, a HDMI 2.0, and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports for connecting external drives. The laptop also has a Thunderbolt 4 port for ultra-fast data transfer speeds, and it can also be used to connect an 8K monitor or two 4K monitors. Asus has also ensured the laptop stays strong on the wireless connectivity. It supports the latest Wi-Fi 6 standard, for a more stable connection without taking a toll on the battery life. There’s also Bluetooth 5.0 for connecting a wireless keyboard, mouse and other peripherals.
The Asus Dash F15 ships with a powerhouse configuration. It is equipped with an Intel Core i7-11375H processor, with the ‘H’ indicating Intel’s high-performance laptop chips. The chipset has a base clock speed of 3.3GHz, and an impressive Turbo Boost speed of 4.8GHz, making it fully capable for high-performance tasks. Its thermal design power (TDP) rating is just 35 watts, 10 watts lower than the older chip’s, so it should also run cooler. The chipset features Intel’s better-performing Iris Xe integrated graphics instead of the aged UHD Graphics silicon.
It’s the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 GPU that gives the Dash F15 its true gaming performance. The RTX 3070 is built on NVIDIA’s Ampere architecture which brings along the second-generation implementation of its ray tracing tech. This means the Asus Dash F15 can take on the latest AAA games such as Assassin Creed: Valhalla, Dirt 5, Watch Dogs 2, Cyberpunk 2077 and more. The graphic solution also makes the laptop a great choice for running photo and video editing tools. The laptop ships with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and there’s 1TB of SSD storage. Asus has also provided an additional SO-DIMM slot for RAM upgrades, and there’s even an additional SSD slot for storage expansion.
The TUF Dash F15 manages to keep its CPU, GPU and other components cool with its 5-heatpipe cooling system. There is also a self-cleaning design to remove debris from the cooling system and it ensure full functionality during long gaming sessions. Asus says the laptop’s Two-Blade design is made of resilient liquid-crystal polymer to further maximise the airflow, and keep the laptop cool for consistent performance.
Asus has opted for a 15.6-inch full HD display for the Dash F15, and it even comes with premium features such as the exceptionally high 240 Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time. A speedy screen like that enhances your overall gaming experience, and it also makes it easier for the graphics card to stretch its legs and render high frame rates. The display also features NVIDIA’s Adaptive-Sync that dynamically adjusts the refresh rate to fit the frame rate of the GPU, while also minimising stuttering and input lag. There is also 100 per cent sRGB support, a feature rarely seen on gaming laptops with high refresh screens. This makes the laptop ideal also for using photo, video and colour correction tools.
The Asus TUF Dash F15 has a well-designed keyboard. The keys offer 1.7mm of travel to make typing experience snappy. The WASD keys come with a clear design to give a laptop a distinctive gaming character. The keyboard also has some offset media controls, including a mute button, which is particularly handy while voice chatting with friends in gaming sessions. The trackpad of the laptop is also large, and it makes scrolling through large pages an easy task. It also supports Windows 10 gestures bringing multitasking to your fingertips.
The TUF Dash F15 ships with Asus’s Armoury Crate Software that lets you customise the keyboard lightning. It also has a game launcher built into it, so you don’t have to juggle between Steam, Origin, Epic or other launchers to play your favourite games.
