Having a big-screen laptop can significantly change things. More screen real-estate makes spotting enemies in games easier, while graphics editors can utilize the extra space for arranging video timelines and the tools more effectively. Traditionally, big-screen laptops were limited to 17 inches, but Asus has decided to break this monotony with the all-new ROG Strix Scar G18. As the name suggests, it’s a massive 18-inch screen laptop which aims to create its own segment. It is powerful and comes with best-in-class specs but despite its large size and power, it maintains a chassis size of a 17-inch gaming machine. How has Asus achieved this? Can it really be a game-changer? Let’s find out.

Asus’ ROG Strix Scar laptops have never been lacking performance, and the Strix Scar G18 is no different. It comes in two configurations, the base variant with its Intel Core i7-13650HX CPU, 16 GB of DDR5 RAM and 1 TB SSD as storage. This model runs NVIDIA’s GeForce RTC 4060 GPU, so running high-end games, video, photo, and 3D modelling software can be run easily. If you need more power, there is also a variant with Intel’s Core i9-13980HX CPU. This is a 24-core CPU, with 8 performance cores and 16 efficiency cores offering a core speed up to 5.6 GHz. The RAM and storage numbers are like the base model, but a more powerful NVIDIA GeForce 4070 GPU is built-in.

Asus says the Strix Scar G18’s chassis was completely redesigned to accommodate a full-width heatsink. The laptop has three fans to improve air intake and dissipate heat. Paired with seven heat pipes and Extreme liquid metal on both the CPU and GPU, temperatures should be kept in check to deliver consistent performance.

The display is undoubtedly the star feature of the Asus ROG Strix Scar 18. The large 18-inch screen offers a 2K QHD (2560 x 1600) resolution. Gaming laptops aren’t always great at colour accuracy, but this one comes with 100 per cent DCI P3 coverage, making this device ideal for those using photo and video editing tools. This QHD panel also supports a 240 Hz refresh rate, so you can experience a buttery-smooth gaming experience. This laptop is also available with a full HD resolution display with a 165 Hz refresh rate panel. Both models offer an 89 per cent screen-to-body ratio, making the laptop look modern and less bulky. Both screens come with a TUV Rheinland certification, ensuring low blue light that prevents eye strain during long gaming and content creation sessions.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar G18 is one of the most impressive-looking gaming laptops. You will find RGB accents both, at the front and rear of the laptop which give it a distinct look. The keyboard deck also stands out with its translucent design, giving you a peek at the powerful internals. Asus says the laptop now comes with a brand-new anti-fingerprint coating which gives it a much darker look while helping keep smudges away. The display lid also has a well-polished ROG logo which adds a premium touch to the notebook.

The laptop has a full-size RGB keyboard and packs in Asus’ Overstroke technology making keypresses responsive. There are also dedicated gaming hotkeys above the left side of the keyboard for quick access to the volume and mic mute controls, operating modes, and Armoury Crate. They are also fully customisable and can be used to launch software. The trackpad is also 10 per cent larger than the 17-inch model. It comes with a glass coating, so you can smoothly glide your fingers and navigate with precision.

The Strix G18 has two tweeters and two downward-firing woofers promising a crisp and loud audio experience. It also supports AI noise cancellation for both incoming and outgoing audio, making sure that your calls, chats and streams work without distraction.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar G18 is also rich on the connectivity front. It has 2 USB 3.2 Type-A ports for connecting external storage devices and other peripherals. There is also a USB 3.2 Type C port for fast data transfer. The Thunderbolt 4 port can be used to connect external displays. You can also use it to charge the device. The device also has a HDMI 2.1 port for the latest TVs and monitors, supporting up to 4K 120 Hz and 8K 60 Hz content. On the wireless side, the device has Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. There is also an RJ45 LAN port plugging into a wired network.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar G18 promises a strong battery life with its 90Wh battery. It supports Type-C charging up to 100W while the supplied 330W power adaptor promises to charge the device from 0 to 50 per cent in just 30 minutes.

The Asus ROG Strix Scar G18 undoubtedly creates a league of its own. It’s a neatly designed and powered 18-inch laptop that can easily handle all high-end games app apps with ease. The laptop also has a great keyboard, comes with all the required connectivity and is also backed up by a strong battery.
