If you have been following Apple, you know how product launches happen. There are leaks, rumours, and hype before the actual launch date. This year is different for Apple and its fans amid the Covid-19 crisis. However, this hasn’t stopped Apple from launching the new iPad Pro. Though the launch event was as silent as things are currently, the new iPad has a lot that can make noise. The new model is now more powerful, comes with better cameras and even sports technology, used by NASA.

Let’s look at what the new iPad Pro has to offer.

Like the previous generation iPad Pro, the 2020 iPad Pro comes in two different sizes. The compact version sports a 11-inch screen while the larger model which is popular among the creator community, sports a 12-inch display. The iPad Pro comes with the Retina Display technology, which is known to produce natural-looking colours. It is the only tablet with a 120Hz display. Having a screen with a faster refresh rate makes scrolling through apps and webpages smooth. It even makes a difference when you play games such as PUGB: Mobile and use apps such as Procreate. The screen also features Apple’s True Tone display, which automatically adjusts the White Balance depending on the surrounding lighting. You can spend hours watching Netflix videos, reading e-books and playing games without straining your eyes.
Apple hasn’t made any major design changes to the iPad Pro. It still uses the same magnesium alloy chassis which offers durability and sleekness. The device is available in Space Grey and Silver colours. The new model is as light as before, so you can easily carry it around. The only design change you’ll notice is at the back, where you’ll now see a squarish camera bump. The new iPad features Face ID like before, which is fast and has proven to be secure. It lets you unlock the device with a glance, which is convenient. The iPad Pro also comes with a Type-C port which makes it a versatile device. It lets you connect a Type-C pen drive, a 4K external monitor and even a USB Type-C hub.

The biggest change in the 2020 iPad Pro is the new Magic Keyboard. It features a floating design that lets you attach the iPad Pro magnetically. Apple say, the new design is far more flexible as it lets you set the perfect viewing angle for your iPad. The new keyboard also comes with a Type-C pass-through port, to charge the iPad Pro. The keys on the keyboard feature scissor key mechanism, which was first introduced in the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Apple claims, this mechanism is more reliable, and it also offers a great typing experience. These keys are backlit, so you can comfortably type in the dark.

The Magic Keyboard also comes with a built-in trackpad. Apple say, they have been working hard to push the iPad Pro experience, to be like a computer. The trackpad supports multi-touch gestures such as swiping up three fingers to open all your apps and swiping left or right to switch between apps. When you connect the keyboard, you can now find Apple’s Bubble cursor, which is handy for scrolling through apps, photos and while editing documents.

The new iPad Pro is Apple’s first-ever tablet to sport dual-cameras. Apple has now put in a 12MP wide-view camera along with a 10MP ultrawide-angle camera. These are the same set of cameras used on the iPhone 11, which means you can expect better low-light pictures and crisper images. These cameras also can shoot 4K videos at 24, 30 and 60fps. The feature that stands-out on the new iPad Pro 2020, is its LIDAR sensor. LIDAR is a technology used by NASA to calculate the distance of space objects from the earth’s surface. The new iPad Pro might not measure the distance of an asteroid from your home, but it can improve the AR experience. LIDAR use lasers which can instantly map objects and surfaces in the room. This means AR apps such as the Measure and Zombie Gunship should now run even smoother.
Apple has also reworked the insides of the iPad Pro. The new model now sports the brand new A12Z eight-core processor. Apple says, the new CPU is twice as faster and should yield smoother AR and video rendering performance. The processor also features enhanced thermal architecture, and all this means, you can play graphic intensive games for longer, without your iPad heating. Apple has also doubled the storage on the base iPad Pro so the base model now comes with 128GB storage which should be enough to lots of movies and photos.

Apple has ensured the 2020 iPad Pro ships with future-ready connectivity. It comes with Wi-Fi 6 for seamless wireless connectivity and Bluetooth 5.0 for connecting peripherals. The device has four speakers, so your music, videos, and games should sound great. Apple hasn’t said much about the battery, but we think with the newer energy efficient CPU, you can expect longer battery life. The device ships with a 18W fast charger, so charging times will be minimal.

Apple has surely done a lot of re-engineering to bring the iPad Pro closer to a computer. They have updated the hardware to offer faster performance and have also worked a lot on the software. The new iPad OS bring features such as the Split View, so you can work on two apps side-by-side. The Files app on the new iPad OS uses a Mac-like interface, which makes arranging files and folders easier. With the prices starting at Rs. 71,900, the new iPad Pro seems to be the most powerful and feature-rich iPad.
