An Apple on your wrist – Introducing the Watch Series 6 and Watch SE

Apple has been good at everything they have spent time on. The iPhones, iPads and MacBooks are prime examples of their expertise and experience. Turns out, Apple makes great smartwatches too. The idea of a smartwatch was only a dream till a few years back and Apple stamped their presence with the Apple Watch. It’s still one of the most sold smartwatches in the world, and this year, Apple has unveiled two new models, the Apple Watch Series 6, the successor to the Apple Watch 5. The other model announced is the Apple Watch SE. It’s what the iPhone SE is to the iPhone range, an affordable but just as impressive device. We are just as excited as you are to see the new watches but first, let’s look at the features we can expect to find, and what the differences between the models are.
Let us focus first on the flagship model, the Apple Watch Series 6. The emphasis is really on the fitness and health aspects this time around. The new Apple Watch Series 6 is armed with new, updated sensors that record more information such as the blood oxygen levels, simply from the surface of your skin. The bloody oxygen level is a good indicator of one’s health since it indicates the oxygen concentration in your blood, based on how well the rest of your body, including your lungs, function. The Apple Watch Series 6 does this with four differently coloured LEDs, that help compensate and correct any kind of abnormalities in the readings that may be caused by the variations that take place on the surface of your skin. It works at any time of day whether it’s bright or dark. The app can measure blood oxygen levels in the range of 70 to 100 per cent, which is pretty good. The Apple Watches are not meant to be used for medical use, self-diagnosis or for consultation with doctors. They are purely for general fitness and wellness purposes.

Users can also take ECG reading anytime they want. This was a feature added in the previous Apple Watch models and it’s even more accurate now. Users can feel comfortable knowing the stats, and the details can also be useful to track your health. There is an ECG app that lets you do this. Simply rest your arm on a flat surface and using the other hand, hold a finger on the Digital Crown. Wait 30 seconds, and you will be given the ECG results.
Sleep is an important factor towards how we fresh we feel through the day and the new Apple Watch ensures it keeps a close eye on not just how long you sleep but also the quality of sleep. Exercise activities are also recorded with the same, fine detail. There isn’t an activity you can’t record. There is a library of physical activities to choose from, and it measures everything from your current heartbeat, the elevation, the distance and time you’ve covered. If you are like most of us, running or cycling in the day time, you will be happy to know the new Always-On Retina display is about two and a half times brighter than the outgoing models, so you won’t need to strain to see what’s on the screen. It also means you don’t have to move your hand towards yourself, to turn the screen on. It’s always there so you can see the time or other stats anytime you want! The Apple Watch Series 6 also does a good job of reminding you to keep moving through the day. It keeps you motivated and there are a range of built-in apps for playing music and podcasts, that you can safely listen to while you’re exercising.

Social interactions are a large part of the motivational cycle too. Activity Sharing lets you update your friends on how much you have been working out or moving, and vice-versa. You can even set group goals and competitions to push each other to exercise more. You won’t need a referee or a timekeeper, the Apple Watch will be that for you.
To wrap it all up, the Family Setup feature comes built into watchOS 7 and it allows children and other members of the family without an iPhone to use the Apple Watch Series 6. You still get all the advantages and stats connected on the devices it’s paired to. Older members of the family can feel safe knowing that the Fall detection feature will alert the iPhone user  so they can help you promptly. Parents can feel safe knowing that the Schooltime feature helps children stay focused when they are studying.
The design of the Apple Watch Series 6 does not appear to be very different at first, but there are two new colours to choose from, the (PRODUCT) Red and Blue Aluminium. These are in addition to the existing Space Black Titanium, Gold Stainless Steel and Silver Aluminium. There are different bands and styles too. In fact, there are so many of them it’s hard to grasp the styles and designs at one glance. The Solo Loop is the simplest, and it’s a stretchable liquid silicon rubber band that has no buckles on it. You simply wear it and get on with your day. The Braided Solo is similar but it’s made of synthetic threads so it is comfortable. Like the Solo, there are no buckles here. The Sports Band has the recognizable design with a simple pin and buckle setup. The Sports Loop has a hook and loop fastening mechanism that we have seen in other watches. Like the others we have mentioned so far, these too come with different colour combinations. It really does not matter what you buy the Apple Watch for, or what activities or how old you are, there really is a design and colour to suit you.
The Apple Watch SE, the other model launched is way more familiar, because it’s a lot like the past Watch models. It’s got the same screen size as the new Apple Watch Series 6, but without the Always-on display. There is a cellular model option as well if you need to go out without your phone around, like the new Apple Watch Series 6. The firepower in your wrist depends on the model. The Watch SE runs an S5 SiP 64-bit dual-processor, which Apple claims is twice as faster than the S3 Apple Watch. The Watch Series 6 uses an S6 SiP dual-core processor, which is supposedly 20 per cent faster than the Series 5. The Watch SE is water resistant too, up to 50 metres, so you can go swimming and record your path and activity on it while you are at it.

In short, what you really don’t get with the Apple Watch SE are the Always-on display, the ECG and Bloody Oxygen measuring features. The Apple Watch SE comes in an aluminium construction, while the more expensive Series 6 comes in Stainless Steel and Titanium options like the we mentioned earlier. The Watch SE will be available in three colours, Silver, Space Grey and Gold.

The good news is that the Watch SE starts from an incredible price of just Rs. 29,900*. The more premium mode, the Watch Series 6 starts from Rs. 40,900* as stated by Apple. Like we said, we are just as excited as you are for the new Apple Watches. There is a model for everyone, and there is a customized strap and band too.
