TV manufacturers such as LG, Sony and Samsung are well-known for TVs. 4K TVs which used to be expensive are now becoming affordable. The benefit of upgrading to a 4K TV is its amazing picture quality and undefinable movie experience. 4K TVs are now available with a perfect combination and balance of a high-end design, picture quality, features and its cost. The UJ632T series is one of LG’s affordable 4K TVs and it’s also one of the newest models launched in 2017. We will be looking at the 43-inch size variant that features a 4K resolution, HDR support, smart features and the latest webOS 3.5 operating system. The LG 43UJ632T is priced just at Rs. 64,990*. Is it worth paying? Let’s find out.

Design and Build

The LG UJ632T is simple in design and can be seen on most of LG’s older UH series TVs. The TV looks bulky and it takes up a lot of space when wall mounted. At first glance, the bezel of the TV appears to be metallic because of the shiny coat. It is made up of plastic and isn’t very slim.

Just below the display is the brand name LG embossed on the bezel. There is a small rectangular block at the base of the TV with a power indicator and a power switch. Besides this, there are two speaker grills at the bottom. The LG UJ632T comes with two angle-designed stands that support the TV on both ends. This is good if you want to place the TV on a table.

The back of the TV is plain and not very crowded. All connectivity ports are at the back and are easily accessible. LG has bundled a magic remote along with the TV. It’s a curved remote with rubberized buttons on it. All the buttons on it are neatly organized and placed evenly. This means you can use the remote without even looking at it. Another good thing about this remote is there is a small scroll wheel at the centre and a dedicated Netflix and Amazon Prime button for easy access.

The LG UJ632T runs on the latest webOS 3.5 operating system. When you first power on the TV, LG’s animated assistant named “Bean Birds” guides through the TV features using short animated clips. They guide you through the initial TV set-up, changing settings to installing apps and more. The UI of the TV is quite simple and easy to use. Also, there are a number of pre-installed apps that should satisfy your needs. For more apps, you can browse through the LG Store. It has a wide collection of apps categorized under different sections such as Entertainment, Games, Movies, etc.

webOS 1

The LG UJ632T host some additional features. There is a 360 VR feature that offers a VR experience on your TV. This can be used to view photos and videos captured with VR cameras in a panoramic or cylindrical format. You can also perform screen mirroring and stream content from your phone or a tablet to the TV. This can be done using a Magic Mobile connection feature. This can be helpful during family gatherings to view photos and so on. The LG UJ632T comes with Netflix and Amazon Prime support where you get access to a wide collection of quality 4K content. Both the online streaming services are subscription based and are affordable too. In terms of audio, the LG UJ632T Smart TV comes built with two down-firing speakers rated at 20W.

HDR

The LG UJ632T comes with three HDMI ports which can be used to connect a set-top box, gaming console or a laptop to the TV. There are also two USB ports to connect external devices such as your mobile phone, pen drive or a hard drive. Most of the other connectivity options are same. There is a Composite, Component and a Digital Audio Out. You can also connect your TV to a router using Wi-Fi or using a LAN cable. Like most Smart TVs, it too supports Wi-Fi Direct so you can connect compatible devices to it.

Performance

When we first switched on the TV, the LG’s proprietary webOS 3.5 interface was the first to greet us. On pressing the Home button, we got access to the app launcher bar which had Amazon Prime, Netflix, Tellybean, LG Store and a bunch of other apps installed. The operating system and the interface of this TV is well organized and easy to use. We used several 4K photos and videos during our test process. After using the TV for a while, we noticed the interface was slow and not very responsive. We noticed a few seconds of delay especially cycling between photos.

The LG UJ632T comes configured with a Standard profile. Colours didn’t look natural and appeared pale. Dark green patches in photos appeared especially dull, whereas the blacks were not deep black, but greyish. Even after changing a few settings, the result weren’t perfect. The contrast is pretty average. We had to tweak settings further to get it to ideal levels. Also, the brightness levels weren’t very appealing. We had to increase it to the highest value. Another thing we didn’t like was the lack of RGB settings, which means we couldn’t adjust the colour rendition.

4K

Besides high-resolution photos, we also played some 4K videos. They were sharp and detailed. We also connected a laptop to this TV using a HDMI cable hoping to get more settings to tweak the picture settings but this didn’t helped us at all. Viewing angles were average and at extreme angles, the screen appears washed off.

Netflix

Next thing we tried was loading and switching between apps. We were not satisfied with this either. The LG UJ632T comes with a quad core processor, but it still takes time to load apps and to switch between them. We used a web browser to load a number of websites, played music and tried a video call using an app called Tellybean.

We even streamed racing games from a smartphone to the TV. Streaming content from a smartphone to the TV was not very smooth. Also, there was some delay and stuttering while streaming games on the TV. We also played some movies using the Amazon Prime Video. The quality of the videos and the collection of both, Bollywood and Hollywood content is good enough to entertain for days on end.

One of the highlighted features of the LG Uj632T is the 360 VR feature. Since virtual reality is gaining popularity, LG is bringing VR experience to its new UJ series TVs. To try out this feature, we viewed some panoramic and spherical format photos and videos. This feature works fine but we found there is limited content available online to really use this feature.

magic_remote

One of the interesting bits is the Magic remote which is bundled along with the LG UJ632T Smart TV. The remote also acts as a motion remote and is of great use if you want to scroll or browse through menus and features that are difficult to use on traditional remotes. The dedicated Netflix and Amazon Prime buttons make accessing the services really simple. In terms of audio quality, the LG UJ632T is decent. We didn’t notice any distortion while playing music or videos at high volume. Vocals were clear and loud.

Verdict

The LG UJ632T is a 4K Smart TV that has some unique features such as 360 VR, smart features along with built-in Netflix and Amazon Prime support. At a price range of Rs. 64,990*, it is one of the most affordable 4K TVs available today. The TV has a decent screen size, details and sound quality but with above-average picture quality and colours. This is OK if you aren’t looking for overly bright and colourful images. If you are looking for a 4K TV at an affordable price with decent features and performance, the LG UJ632T is what we would recommend.
